Well! I think this page is about me Right???
Welcome to my About Me page! I am Ayan Basu, a passionate individual pursuing a Ph.D. in Molecular Fracture Mechanics. I have a background in mechanical engineering and a keen interest in the intersection of engineering, materials science, applied mathematics, and recent developments in molecular (and statistical) mechanics.
I completed my Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) in Mechanical Engineering from Kalyani Government Engineering College (2016 - 2020). Those four years were filled with exciting challenges and a lot of growth. I developed a strong foundation in mechanical principles and discovered my passion for understanding how materials act at a micro-scale and developed a curiosity for exploring different computational processes to explore material behaviors.
After my undergraduate studies, I decided to continue my academic journey at the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST). I joined their Master of Technology (M.Tech.) program in Aerospace Engineering in August 2021. Although my time at IIEST was relatively short, lasting only six months, it was an intense and valuable experience that further fueled my curiosity and allowed me to explore the fascinating world of molecular mechanics. While my M.Tech. journey lasted for one semester only, I embraced the opportunity to learn and grow as a researcher during that period.
In addition to my academic pursuits, I have a genuine passion for continuous learning and exploring various subjects. I find immense joy in delving into the realms of general physics and mathematics, as they provide a fascinating understanding of the fundamental principles governing our universe.
To quench my thirst for knowledge, I have independently studied diverse topics ranging from game theory to sustainability, from density functional theory to the special theory of relativity. I have also delved into the fields of simulation and modeling of natural processes, numerical methods, particle physics, and mathematics for multivariate analysis. Moreover, I have taken the initiative to develop a foundation in programming by self-learning the basics of Python and MATLAB.
This diverse range of subjects has broadened my perspectives and nurtured my analytical thinking skills. It has equipped me with a multidisciplinary mindset, enabling me to approach challenges from different angles and find innovative solutions.
I firmly believe that learning should be a lifelong endeavor, and I am excited to continue expanding my knowledge and exploring new fields of study throughout my academic and professional journey.

Personal Interests
MD Simulations of CNT: One of my major interests lies in the realm of molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, specifically focusing on carbon nanotubes (CNT). Exploring the behavior and properties of these nanoscale structures through computational simulations allows me to delve into the intricate world of nanotechnology and its potential applications.
Exploring Historical Figures and Social Structures: I have a strong affinity for history and enjoy gaining insights into the lives and achievements of historical figures. To satisfy my curiosity, I often enjoy watching the Biographics, OSP, and DW documentaries YouTube channels. This channel offers captivating and well-researched biographical content, allowing me to delve into the journeys, accomplishments, and challenges faced by individuals who have shaped our world.
I have always been fascinated by the history and governance of the Greek city-states, Roman Republic, and Empire. I am constantly driven to learn more about the rise and fall of these influential civilizations, their social-class system, socio-political structures, and their impact on Global civilization. Unraveling the complexities of ancient Greece, Rome, Egypt and the rest of the Mediterranean peninsula offers a captivating glimpse into the dynamics of power, law, and culture.
Am I a bibliophile??? You decide...
Reading is a passion I cherish, and it plays a significant role in my personal growth and intellectual exploration. I am particularly fond of two genres that captivate me in different ways: thrillers and classic literature.
In the realm of classic literature, I have delved into timeless masterpieces such as "The Count of Monte Cristo" and "The Three Musketeers," which have transported me to different eras and allowed me to experience the adventures and intrigues of the characters. I have also immersed myself in the dark and atmospheric world of "Dracula" by Bram Stoker, the fascinating concept of social concept beauty and hedonism presented by Oscar Wilde in "The Picture of Dorian Gray" and explored the thought-provoking dystopian society depicted in "1984" and "Brave New World". Additionally, the hauntingly beautiful and passionate tale of "Wuthering Heights" has left an indelible mark on me, as did death by telling the story of "The Book Thief".
When it comes to thrillers, I find myself drawn to the works of authors like Peter May, J.D. Robb (Nora Roberts), Loreth Anne White, Helen Fields, Kendra Elliot and Gillian Flynn. Their gripping storytelling and ability to keep me on the edge of my seat have made reading their books an exhilarating experience. Exploring their thrilling narratives, complex characters, and unexpected plot twists is a thrilling journey in itself.
Through these genres, I have learned to appreciate the art of storytelling and the power of literature to transport and captivate. Through books, I can immerse myself in different worlds, gain new perspectives, and experience a range of emotions. My reading habits are not limited to these genres alone, as I often venture into other genres and explore a variety of authors. I believe that each book has something unique to offer, whether it is an engaging story, thought-provoking themes, or beautifully crafted prose.
As my reading journey continues, I look forward to discovering new authors, expanding my literary horizons, and delving deeper into the worlds created by talented writers. To gain further insights into my reading interests, you can visit my Goodreads.
