Association for Women in Mathematics
UManitoba Student Chapter
Welcome to the official website for the University of Manitoba's Association for Women in Mathematics Student Chapter!
WHO ARE WE?
Founded in 1971, the Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) is a non-profit organization that aims to create a community in which women and girls can thrive in their mathematical endeavours, and to promote equitable opportunity and treatment of women and other marginalized genders and gender identities across the mathematical sciences.
The AWM is committed to fostering an atmosphere that encourages free expression, the exchange of scientific ideas, and the promotion of equality of opportunity and treatment for all of its members—including the members of the UM Student Chapter.
AWM Goals
The AWM Student Chapter at the University of Manitoba welcomes all UM students interested, regardless of gender identity or expression, race, colour, religion, age, national origin, sexual orientation, or disability. Our Chapter will promote the following:
An increased knowledge of and greater interest in the mathematical sciences (pure and applied mathematics, statistics, and their applications);
A greater understanding of the contributions of women in the mathematical sciences; and
Mentoring and encouraging women and girls as they consider and/or prepare for careers in the mathematical sciences.
