LYRICS:
At best I am indifferent, my difference is evident - oh yeah
I’ll butcher all your words and I’ll do it with a smile on my face - oh yeah
And its really fine - If I dont waste my time
Right now Im barely here (and I dont mind)
Now and then Ill poke the beast, energise my rage then show defeat
Sliding past you undetected, unaffected I cant wait to leave
And its really fine - If I dont waste my time
Right now Im barely here (and I dont mind)
So sorry Im not sorry, I dont have the time to fucking explain
So sorry Im not sorry, I dont have the time to fucking explain
And its really fine - If I dont waste my time
Right now Im barely here and I dont mind - no I dont mind
Indifferent: This song is about a mindset of leaving a place - checking out mentally, being indifferent to what is around you, and trying to capture the positivity that comes with that feeling - the abandonment of frustrations. The run up before the leap - its about being ready to move on from a place or situation. Written in Rome, the first verse mentions an indifference to learning the language further at that point as I had no intention of staying. The second verse makes reference to trying every so often, and the rage it caused, and how being silent - sliding past undetected was the best way to be unaffected by the madness of the city. Writing the song was a cathartic release of 2 years of frustration living there, but channeling it into positivity and exploring what the joy of leaving sounds like. Most specifically in the choruses with the ooooh backing vocals I was trying to give a lightness to the section.
