Reinventing the wheel : Applications of Modular Arithmetic in Security

In this talk , we will discuss modular arithmetic and their applications in security. During the talk we will try to understand arithmetic operations both mathematically and pictorially. Especially, we will discuss modular addition, multiplication and exponentiation. We will subsequently discuss the application of modular arithmetic in representation of signed binary numbers, Single digit error detection in International Standard Book Numbers (ISBN) and International Bank Account Number (IBAN) and Caesar cipher. Then we will explore modular multiplication and exponentiation and their application in Diffie Hellman key exchange and RSA. We will also visualize how Elliptic curve cryptography works.
