Book Checkout Policies
Students in Kindergarten are allowed to check out one book per week. That book must be returned the following week in order to check out a new book.
The same for Grade One.
Students in Grades Two and Three are allowed to check out two books.
If a teacher requires a certain type of book for an assignment, then a student may have as many as four books at a time.
Grade Four may check out two books with an additional book if there is a special assignment.
The RBS Library does not charge fines for late books. We do, however, expect payment of a book that has been lost or damaged beyond the point at which it can still be used. If a lost book that is paid for is later found, a refund will be issued. Overdue notices are sent home periodically to let parents know which books are late and the prices should payment need to be made. All students are taught proper care of books, respect for property, and responsibility for borrowing property and returning it on time and in good condition.
Students may renew a book as long as it takes to finish reading the book, unless the book has a hold on it. In that case, a book may be renewed once but must be returned after that to satisfy the hold. The only books that may not be renewed are the various copies of the Guinness Book of World Records. These books are so popular that it is not uncommon for there to be a hold list of 20 students.
A student may place a hold on a book that is checked out to someone else. When the book is returned, it is placed on the hold shelf so that the student waiting for it can check it out.
Roaring Brook School, in keeping with the policy of the other elementary schools, will show only G rated movies, without parental notification and signed permission.
If a PG rated movie is to be shown parents/guardians will receive written notification and the option to have their child excused from viewing the film. Any child excused from viewing a film will go to the library with an alternate assignment.
Teachers must preview any PG movie they are considering for class presentation and inform the principal or assistant principal. No PG-13 or R rated films may be shown
