Prior to joining IIT Bombay, I was a postdoctoral research associate in computational magnetohydrodynamics at the Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge, UK on a project funded by the Leverhulme Trust, in collaboration with Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research, Göttingen, Germany. Before that, I completed my doctoral study & research in 2015 in the same department working with Prof Peter Davidson on a scholarship awarded by St John's College. My thesis was on 'inertial waves in rotating turbulence'. My decision to pursue a PhD was motivated by an introductory course on turbulence that I took at the Aerospace department of IIT Madras taught by Prof N R Panchapakesan, which I found quite challenging & intriguing. (I think that a good teacher can help shape the career of the student along with imparting other personality attributes). At the department of mechanical engineering at IITM, I completed Master of Science (MS) by research writing a thesis on 'PIV study of incylinder flow in engines' supervised by Prof Pramod Mehta and Prof S R Chakravarthy. Concurrently with my MS research, I was a Project Associate on a TIFAC-DST (Govt. of India) sponsored project 'use of straight vegetable oils in engines' in collaboration with IISc Bangalore. Also, I worked for a year in industry as Assistant Manager in the connecting rod & camshaft manufacturing unit of Tata Cummins Ltd. after completing B.Tech. (Mechanical Engineering) from NIT Jalandhar. During my third year of UG, I spent three months as a summer intern at the I C Engines lab, IITM working with Prof Mehta - this was where I first got a taste of research that led me to pursue MS later on.
