Who are we?

Avirah is University of Maryland's Israeli Dance Company. Originally formed in the 1990s and revived in 2013, Avirah is now a strong performing group with diverse dance backgrounds. We perform on campus, in the Greater Washington D.C. area, and at Israeli Dance Festivals up and down the East Coast.

What do we do?

Each year, members of Avirah choreograph at least one original suite.

Avirah also goes out into the community to perform and run workshops! Check out our services page here.

Want to join the fun?

Throughout the semester, we also offer open dancing sessions called "Rikudei Tzav," where we invite community members into our rehearsal. We frequently partner with other campus groups to incorporate Israeli dancing into other events. To find information about our next teaching session, check out our calendar here.

Mission Statement

The purpose of Avirah is to bring Israeli dance culture to the University of Maryland. Its group members will also volunteer throughout the community while hoping to share the love of Israeli dance with all. Avirah will accomplish this while abiding by the University of Maryland’s standards.
