Meet Avijit

Avijit was born in West Bengal. He received his B.Sc form Ramakrishna Mission Residential College, Narendrapur, and M.Sc from IIT Bombay. As a master's student with Prof. Debabrata Maiti, Avijit investigated palladium-catalyzed C-H activation reactions. 

Avijit Began his graduate study with Prof. Gojko Lalic at the University of Washington in 2015 working on coinage metal functionalization of terminal alkynes. His graduate research included the integration of radical chemistry with traditionally closed-shell copper hydride chemistry. 

In December 2021, he joined Prof. Matt Sigman’s lab at the University of Utah as a postdoctoral associate, where he worked on mechanistic understanding and reaction outcome prediction by integrating synthetic techniques with data science and machine learning. 

In September 2025, Avijit started his independent career at IISER Bhopal where he is currently an Assistant Professor.
