The North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) created guidelines for excellence in environmental education by putting together a unique team of professionals. These guidelines were used the Aves Compartidas team as standards to meet in order to create a well-rounded environmental education for all students we interact with.
Learning in Places (LiP) is a network of collaborating educators, families, and communities working to build thriving socio-ecological relationships for children from pre-K to 5th grade. In partnership with LiP, Aves Compartidas used their educator frameworks as a guideline in developing our curriculum to be more equitable, culturally reflective, and just, with connections between humans and the planet.
In 1977, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) met in order to create the Tbilisi Declaration to better Environmental Education as a whole. This declaration claimed 5 stages of environmental education objectives from awareness to acknowledgment to attitude, followed by skills, and lastly, action. These stages are a collective framework used by Aves Compartidas to best aid our students in becoming bilingual, environmental stewards.
Aves Compartidas is founded on a philosophy of student-centered, equity-focused, and place-based learning. We believe students should experience education through their child passions and engaging curricula. Our program uplifts values of environmental stewardship and supports students of all backgrounds in learning.
