I first came up with this story idea at night, as is how all (or most) of my novels sprout into life.
It all started with a word: Scarface. Then a train of thought:
What if I made a character, who was a ruthless (okay, he’s a bit different, lol) assassin, but he didn’t really believe he was born to do this?
What would his story be?
What if he was a misinterpreted dragon who was enlisted into a life of performing the ruthless task of ending others' lives?
Marked with scars of past battles, he struggles to find his place in the world, unaccepted by those who turn their eyes from his hybrid-ness and the belief that he was the embodiment of a forbidden intertribal relationship.
What if he was also the forbidden offspring of a royal and a war chief, from opposite tribes? In the middle of a war?
And, moreover, what if he was the one true key to solving and stopping a dangerous event from shaking the continent(s) of Dringalia, and changing the world forever?
All these things rushed through my head on that sleepless night. Not wanting to forget any of it, I leaped from my comfy blankets and rushed around my room. How would I write it? I paced back and forth. Aha! I wouldn't write it...yet!
I grabbed the first thing within reach, an old 2ft by 1 ft. poster, white, and flipped it over, snatching up a pencil. I took a deep breath and let my vision flow through the pencil graphite and onto the paper, and voilà
Scar was born.
This first sketch, being on such a big paper, is proving a challenge for me to somehow get it from that physical paper onto a flash drive and into my digital novel. But, fear not, for I will find a way. (hopefully...)
And, as you continue through this story, and immerse yourself into the complicated life of a sweet dragon, you will see why I did not give up.
Heroes don't give up. (Unless they're weak)
Did Tui. T. Sutherland (my fav author of allllll time) give up and say "No way, I'm not writing 15 books!"?
No, I don't think she did.
(She actually wrote more than 15, to be honest.)
And I am very grateful of that. Much love to you, Tui! :)
So, here we are. Fast forward 5 months (wow! was it really that long ago? yeah, I guess it was.)
Here I am, telling you to go for it, don't give up, and fight for your dreams.
