If you want a compact, voice-focused radio for personal listening and simple media playback, choose Avantree SP850; if you need a large, high-resolution visual extension for work or entertainment on the go, choose FLYTOCCA Monitor. These two devices serve completely different purposes in the modern digital ecosystem, yet both are designed with portability as their core strength. One is built to deliver clear audio in your pocket, while the other expands your visual workspace wherever you travel. Understanding this fundamental split is the only way to decide which device belongs in your bag today.
• Avantree SP850: Its greatest strength is delivering balanced, clear audio specifically tuned for close-range personal use with multiple input options like FM, Bluetooth, and SD cards; its trade-off is that it is not designed for large rooms or high-power sound systems. This pick is ideal for someone seeking a dedicated, portable audio companion for news, music, or podcasts without needing a smartphone screen.
• FLYTOCCA Monitor: Its biggest advantage is offering a spacious 16-inch display with a 16:10 aspect ratio that provides roughly 10% more screen real estate than standard laptop screens, making it perfect for productivity and gaming; its trade-off is that it requires an external power source and a video signal from another device to function. This pick is best for professionals, travelers, or gamers who need a secondary screen to boost efficiency or immersion.
The Avantree SP850 is a marvel of compact engineering, designed specifically for those who value simplicity and clarity over raw volume or massive room-filling bass. At just 158 grams and measuring roughly 5.12 inches long by 2.6 inches high, this device slips easily into a coat pocket or a small purse. It is not trying to be the loudest speaker in the room; instead, it focuses on being the clearest. The internal tuning prioritizes balanced audio that makes voices intelligible, which is crucial for listening to radio broadcasts, podcasts, or audiobooks where understanding the content matters more than feeling the beat.
This unit shines because of its versatility in how it accepts content. You aren't locked into a single app or streaming service. You can tune into local FM stations using the built-in tuner, stream wirelessly via Bluetooth from your phone or tablet, or plug in a standard SD card to play MP3 files directly from the device. The LED display provides immediate feedback on station numbers or track information, removing the guesswork often found in older portable radios. For anyone who finds navigating complex menus frustrating, the numeric keys allow you to save up to nine favorite channels instantly, ensuring your preferred news or music stations are always one button press away.

It is particularly well-suited for elderly users or anyone with specific hearing needs who requires clear, uncluttered audio. The design philosophy here is about accessibility; the device offers a headphone jack for private listening, allowing users to hear every word clearly without disturbing others or needing to turn the volume to uncomfortable levels. However, if you are looking for a speaker to blast music across a backyard or fill a living room with deep bass, this is not the right tool. With a maximum output power of just 2 watts, it is strictly a personal listening device meant for close proximity. If you need something to carry around a large house or outdoor gathering, you will find the sound too quiet. But for a traveler, a commuter, or someone who wants a reliable backup radio that doesn't rely on a constant data connection, the SP850 offers a robust, no-nonsense solution.
In stark contrast to the audio-first approach of the Avantree, the FLYTOCCA Monitor is engineered entirely for visual expansion. This is a 16-inch IPS display that delivers a crisp 1920 x 1200 resolution, offering a 16:10 aspect ratio that provides significantly more vertical space than traditional 16:9 laptop screens. For anyone who works with spreadsheets, reads documents, or codes, that extra inch of height translates to seeing more lines of code or rows of data without scrolling. The matte finish on the screen helps reduce glare, making it usable in various lighting conditions, from bright coffee shops to dim hotel rooms.
Portability is central to this product's design. Weighing only 1.62 pounds and sitting under 0.6 inches thick, it is light enough to carry in a backpack alongside a laptop. The included premium smart cover serves a dual purpose: it protects the screen from scratches when packed away and acts as a stand to prop the monitor up at eye level. A standout feature for many travelers is the ability to rotate the screen 360 degrees, allowing you to switch between horizontal and vertical modes manually. This pivot capability is incredibly useful for reading long web pages, viewing PDFs, or coding in a portrait orientation. While the auto-rotation isn't automatic, the mechanical flexibility allows you to adapt the screen to your task instantly.
The audio experience on the FLYTOCCA is also worth noting for a secondary screen setup. It comes equipped with upgraded speakers that provide richer sound for shared entertainment, but it also features a dedicated 3.5mm headphone jack. This ensures that even though it is a monitor, you have the option for private listening when you need to focus or watch movies late at night without waking anyone. This device is perfect for remote workers, students, and gamers who need a second window to manage tasks or immerse themselves in games. It connects via HDMI and USB, making it compatible with most laptops, tablets, and desktops. However, it is important to remember that this is a visual aid; it does not process content on its own. You must have a host device to drive the display, and unlike the Avantree, it relies on an external power source rather than having a massive internal battery for all-day independent use.
• Best for battery independence → Avantree SP850: It has a built-in rechargeable battery and includes a CR5 battery for backup, allowing it to function without being plugged into a wall outlet constantly.
• Best for screen real estate → FLYTOCCA Monitor: The 16-inch display with a 16:10 ratio offers approximately 10% more viewing area than standard laptop screens, significantly boosting productivity.
• Best for hands-free radio access → Avantree SP850: Features auto-scan and quick station saving via numeric keys (1-9) for instant access to your favorite FM frequencies.
• Best for multi-tasking workflows → FLYTOCCA Monitor: Supports horizontal and vertical pivoting, making it ideal for switching between wide spreadsheets and tall documents.
• Best for private listening → Avantree SP850: Tuned specifically for clear voice and balanced audio in a compact design, perfect for close-range personal use.
• Best for immersive visuals → FLYTOCCA Monitor: Delivers crystal-clear 1200P visuals with a 2-millisecond response time, suitable for gaming and detailed work.
• Best for travel durability → FLYTOCCA Monitor: Includes a protective smart cover that shields the screen from scratches during transit.
• Best for simple media playback → Avantree SP850: Supports direct MP3 playback from an SD card, eliminating the need for a smartphone to play your music collection.
After weighing the specifications and intended use cases, I would choose the Avantree SP850 if my primary goal was a dedicated, worry-free audio device for daily listening. It stands out as the superior choice for elderly users or anyone who values clear, voice-centric audio and the convenience of a self-contained radio that doesn't require a complex setup. Its ability to play FM, stream Bluetooth, or read SD cards independently makes it a true all-in-one companion that never feels burdensome.
However, if your life revolves around managing multiple windows, editing documents, or gaming on the road, the FLYTOCCA Monitor is the undeniable winner. The sheer size and clarity of that 16-inch screen change how you interact with your computer, turning a cramped laptop experience into a desktop-like workflow. In my opinion, the Avantree is the better gift for someone who needs simplicity and reliability in their audio, while the FLYTOCCA is the essential tool for anyone trying to maximize their productivity and visual comfort while traveling. Both are excellent within their lanes, but they solve entirely different problems.
Yes, the Avantree SP850 is explicitly tuned for clear voice and balanced audio in a compact design, making it ideal for personal listening where intelligibility is key. It also features a headphone jack for private, high-clarity listening.
No, the FLYTOCCA Monitor requires a video signal from a compatible device like a laptop, tablet, or desktop via HDMI or USB to display images. It is an extender, not a standalone computer.
The FLYTOCCA Monitor features a 16-inch 16:10 aspect ratio, which provides approximately 10% more screen area than traditional 15.6-inch monitors, enhancing productivity and viewing pleasure.
