If you want a versatile travel kit that doubles as an airplane transmitter and open-ear style listening experience, choose Avantree SoundJet R1; if you need deep active noise cancellation for gaming or commuting with superior battery endurance, choose HONOR Choice Earbuds X7i.
I have spent time analyzing the technical specifications of both devices to help you decide which one belongs in your bag for your next PS5 session or daily commute. These two products approach audio differently: one is a hybrid solution designed for adaptability across multiple devices, while the other is a dedicated high-performance earbud built for immersion and longevity. The decision comes down to whether you prioritize the unique ability to stream from non-Bluetooth sources like older TVs or flight entertainment systems, or if you demand maximum silence and extended playtime for immersive gaming.
• Avantree SoundJet R1: Its standout strength is the dual-mode versatility, allowing you to use the included Bluetooth 5.3 transmitter with any AUX device or connect directly to your phone; its trade-off is a smaller battery life compared to modern standalone earbuds.
• HONOR Choice Earbuds X7i: Its biggest advantage is the massive 40-hour total battery life and aggressive 45dB noise cancellation depth; its trade-off is the lack of a dedicated transmitter for non-Bluetooth legacy devices.
• Who it's for: Choose the Avantree if you travel frequently or own older tech; choose the HONOR if you are a heavy gamer or commuter who needs silence and all-day power.
The Avantree SoundJet R1 is not just a pair of earbuds; it is a complete ecosystem for travelers and tech enthusiasts who refuse to be tethered by outdated ports. The defining feature here is the inclusion of the Sky Clan N1 transmitter. This small accessory allows you to plug into any device with a standard 3.5mm AUX connector—like an in-flight entertainment system, an older television, or a gym machine—and wirelessly stream audio to the earbuds. This makes it an ideal solution for the traveler who wants to watch movies on a plane without relying on the seatback screen's limited headphone jack or struggling with wired connections.
For gamers, this setup offers a unique flexibility. While many modern consoles require specific wireless dongles or direct Bluetooth pairing, the R1 system allows you to bridge the gap. You can plug the transmitter into a TV or PC with an audio output and enjoy wireless freedom without needing the console itself to support Bluetooth audio natively. The Hybrid ANC capability blocks out up to 24dB of environmental noise, which is sufficient for dampening the hum of an engine or a busy office, keeping you focused on your game or movie.

However, this versatility comes with compromises. The design focuses heavily on the "all-in-one" utility rather than pure audiophile performance. The frequency range sits between 20 Hz and 20,000 Hz, which is standard, but the primary draw is the connectivity. If you are looking for a single pair of earbuds to simply blast music from your phone while running, the extra bulk of carrying the transmitter might feel unnecessary. It is also worth noting that the battery management relies on the number of power levels provided, which suggests a focus on efficiency over raw capacity compared to competitors.
This product is perfect for the frequent flyer or the home theater enthusiast who owns a mix of new and old audio equipment. It is also excellent for anyone who wants crystal clear calls open ear earbuds for ps5 setups where the console does not natively support Bluetooth audio, requiring an external bridge. If you value having a single purchase that solves the problem of connecting to non-Bluetooth devices, the R1 is your answer. But if you just want simple, lightweight earbuds for your phone, the complexity might be overkill.
The HONOR Choice Earbuds X7i is engineered for those who prioritize immersion, silence, and endurance above all else. From the moment you look at the specs, the battery life stands out as a major selling point. With a single charge providing up to 8 hours of playback and the charging case extending that to a massive 40 hours, these earbuds are built for marathon sessions. Whether you are grinding through a long RPG on your PS5 or traveling across time zones, you will rarely find yourself reaching for a charger. This makes it the superior choice for anyone who hates the anxiety of a dying battery mid-game or mid-commute.
Where the HONOR truly shines is in its noise cancellation capabilities. It boasts a maximum depth of 40dB, significantly higher than the 24dB found in the Avantree system. This level of active noise cancellation is transformative for noisy environments like subways, busy offices, or loud living rooms. The unit features three distinct noise-cancelling modes that can be managed via the HONOR AI Space APP, allowing you to tailor the silence to your specific surroundings. Furthermore, the AI Noise Cancellation technology works on the microphone side to isolate your voice during calls, ensuring clarity even when background noise is chaotic.
The physical design is equally compelling for active users. At only 4.2g per earpiece, they are incredibly lightweight, reducing fatigue during long wear. The IP54 rating guarantees protection against dust and water splashes, making them durable enough for intense workouts or unexpected rain. The 12.4 mm large driver unit promises transparent highs and powerful bass, utilizing TPU+PET Ti-plated composite diaphragm technology to deliver dynamic sound. For gamers specifically, the Bluetooth 5.3 chip supports low latency, which is crucial for audio-visual synchronization in fast-paced games.
However, the HONOR X7i is a more traditional earbud experience. It lacks the external transmitter included with the Avantree, meaning it cannot directly interface with non-Bluetooth AUX devices without an additional adapter. It is strictly a Bluetooth ecosystem. If your goal is to connect to an older TV or a specific piece of gym equipment that only has a 3.5mm port, this earbud will not work out of the box. It is best suited for users who primarily use smartphones, modern gaming consoles, or laptops with native Bluetooth support and want the deepest possible silence and longest possible battery life.
• Best for battery life → HONOR Choice Earbuds X7i (40 hours total vs. Avantree's standard levels).
• Best for connecting to non-Bluetooth devices → Avantree SoundJet R1 (Includes a dedicated 3.5mm AUX transmitter).
• Best for noise isolation → HONOR Choice Earbuds X7i (45dB/40dB depth vs. Avantree's 24dB).
• Best for travel versatility → Avantree SoundJet R1 (Transmitter allows use on planes and older TVs).
• Best for gaming audio sync → HONOR Choice Earbuds X7i (Low latency Bluetooth 5.3 optimized for sports and complex scenes).
• Best for call clarity in noise → HONOR Choice Earbuds X7i (AI Noise Cancellation algorithms vs. standard Ambient Mode).
• Best for durability during sports → HONOR Choice Earbuds X7i (IP54 rating and ultra-lightweight 4.2g design).
• Best for multi-device switching → Avantree SoundJet R1 (Can use earbuds and transmitter independently).
In my opinion, the HONOR Choice Earbuds X7i is the better choice for most people today, especially if you are using these for your PS5 or daily commuting. The sheer advantage of 40 hours of battery life and the deeper 45dB noise cancellation creates a more immersive experience that the Avantree simply cannot match. The AI-driven call clarity and the lightweight, sweat-resistant build make it a robust companion for serious gaming and active lifestyles. While the Avantree SoundJet R1 is a clever tool for travelers with legacy equipment, the HONOR offers a more refined, powerful, and convenient audio experience for modern users. I would buy the HONOR Choice Earbuds X7i for my personal use because the silence and endurance are worth the trade-off of not having the built-in transmitter.
Both options offer active noise cancellation, but the HONOR Choice Earbuds X7i provides a deeper 45dB reduction which is generally superior for blocking out room noise during gaming. The Avantree requires a separate transmitter to work with non-Bluetooth outputs, whereas the HONOR connects directly via Bluetooth 5.3 for low latency.
The HONOR Choice Earbuds X7i wins decisively with a total of 40 hours of playtime including the case, compared to the Avantree SoundJet R1 which relies on standard power levels without specifying a similar extended duration. This makes the HONOR ideal for all-day or multi-session use without recharging.
Neither of these products are headbands; they are in-ear buds. However, both feature active noise cancellation. The HONOR model includes a specialized AI algorithm for call noise cancellation and three adjustable ANC modes, while the Avantree uses a hybrid ANC system focused on ambient awareness.
The HONOR Choice Earbuds X7i features a larger 12.4 mm driver unit with advanced composite diaphragm technology for dynamic sound, whereas the Avantree SoundJet R1 utilizes a standard dynamic driver with a 20 Hz - 20,000 Hz frequency range. The HONOR's larger driver size suggests a potential advantage in bass response and detail resolution.
