If you want a secure, travel-optimized earbud solution that locks into larger ear canals for long flights and offers plug-and-play convenience with airplane adapters, choose Avantree Sky Ace; if you need powerful over-ear active noise cancellation, massive battery life for multi-day trips, and adjustable headbands for broader head shapes, choose iKmai Headphone Hybrid Noise.
• Avantree Sky Ace: Its biggest strength is the specialized flight adapter system and secure in-ear fit designed for medium-to-large ears, but it relies on passive isolation rather than active cancellation.
• iKmai Headphone Hybrid Noise: Its biggest strength is the 40dB hybrid active noise cancellation and 75-hour playtime, making it ideal for big heads seeking all-day comfort, though it lacks the specific plug-and-play flight transmitter included with the other option.
• Who picks which: Choose the Avantree for travelers who prioritize ease of connection to inflight screens and a snug fit; choose the iKmai for commuters or home users who need heavy-duty silence and extended listening sessions.
The Avantree Sky Ace is engineered specifically for the modern traveler who wants to bypass the hassle of pairing devices with old inflight entertainment systems. The standout feature here is the "Plug & Play" capability. You simply insert the included transmitter into the audio out port of an airplane seat or any device with a 3.5mm jack, power it on, and the earbuds connect automatically within seconds. There is no manual Bluetooth pairing process required during the chaos of boarding or turbulence. This makes it an incredibly streamlined tool for watching movies or listening to music on planes, trains, or even connecting to gym equipment and consoles like the Nintendo Switch or PS5 without fumbling with settings.
For those dealing with large ear structures, the design philosophy here is distinct. The product data indicates these are built to fit medium to large ear sizes. They come with various tips and fins designed to create a tight seal in the cymba conchas—the bowl-shaped area above the ear canal. If you have struggled with standard earbuds falling out or feeling loose, the red and blue fins provide a mechanical anchor that keeps them secure during movement. The flat design also allows you to sleep comfortably on your side, which is a rare feature for true wireless earbuds. However, this focus on a snug, secure fit means they might feel too tight or restrictive if you have smaller ears or prefer a loose-fitting style.
Sound quality is delivered through aptX Adaptive technology and precision drivers, aiming for a full-spectrum experience that balances bass and treble. While they do not use active noise cancellation, the ergonomic design creates a physical seal that blocks outside noises effectively enough for noisy airports. The inclusion of four cVc 8.0 microphones ensures that calls remain crystal clear even in windy or loud environments. If you are someone who values a stable connection to in-flight screens and needs a headset that stays put while you move around the cabin or work out, this unit is a serious contender. But be aware that the 10.5-hour battery life, while solid, is significantly shorter than what you get from the competing over-ear option.

The iKmai Headphone Hybrid Noise targets a completely different user profile: the heavy listener who demands silence and longevity. This is an over-ear headphone set equipped with a premium 5-mic hybrid active noise cancellation system capable of blocking up to 40dB of noise. This level of active suppression is physically superior to the passive isolation offered by in-ear buds, making it the superior choice for blocking out engine drone, office chatter, or construction noise. The sound signature is tuned for high fidelity, featuring deep and powerful bass, clear midranges, and transparent treble without harshness. It includes two EQ presets to let you tailor the audio profile to your preference, ensuring the music sounds rich and detailed regardless of the source.
Comfort is the primary selling point for the iKmai when it comes to wider head types. The product description highlights soft leather earpads and an adjustable headband, features that are essential for anyone with a bigger head who often finds over-ear headphones pinching or slipping off. The adjustable band allows you to dial in the exact tension needed so the earcups seal properly without causing pressure points. This design supports "all-day comfortable wearing," which is crucial for long-haul flights or marathon work sessions. Unlike the earbuds, which might cause fatigue after several hours due to the pressure inside the ear canal, the iKmai distributes weight across the top of the head and cushions the ears entirely.
Battery performance is where this unit truly separates itself from the competition. With a staggering 75-hour playtime, you can go weeks without charging, making it perfect for international travel or remote work setups where power outlets are scarce. It also includes a bundle with an airplane Bluetooth adapter, allowing you to connect wirelessly to inflight systems, though you still need to pair it via Bluetooth unlike the instant connection of the Avantree. The Auracast feature allows for music sharing with multiple other headsets, which is great for group listening scenarios. However, the trade-off is size and bulk. These are not pocket-friendly devices, and the lack of a compact case compared to the earbuds means they take up more space in your carry-on bag.
• Best for Plug-and-Play Travel → Avantree Sky Ace, because its dedicated transmitter connects instantly to airplane jacks without needing a Bluetooth pairing handshake.
• Best for Active Noise Cancellation → iKmai Headphone Hybrid Noise, offering 40dB of active suppression versus the passive isolation of the earbuds.
• Best for Battery Life → iKmai Headphone Hybrid Noise, providing 75 hours of continuous playback compared to the 10.5 hours of the Sky Ace.
• Best for Big Heads Seeking Comfort → iKmai Headphone Hybrid Noise, thanks to the adjustable headband and plush leather pads that accommodate wider cranial structures better than fixed-fit earbuds.
• Best for Secure Fit During Movement → Avantree Sky Ace, as the fin tips and ergonomic shape lock securely into the ear canal for workouts or walking through airports.
• Best for Sleep Comfort → Avantree Sky Ace, since the flat design allows you to lie on your side without the bulky earcups pressing against your pillow.
• Best for Group Listening → iKmai Headphone Hybrid Noise, which supports Auracast audio sharing for multiple listeners simultaneously.
• Best for Call Quality → Both are strong, but the Avantree uses four specific cVc 8.0 mics optimized for environmental noise canceling, while the iKmai relies on its 5-mic array for general clarity.
In my opinion, I would buy the iKmai Headphone Hybrid Noise for almost any situation involving a big head or long-duration listening. The combination of 40dB active noise cancellation and 75-hour battery life solves the two biggest pain points of travel: the inability to block out engine noise and the constant anxiety about running out of power. While the Avantree Sky Ace is a clever piece of engineering for its instant airplane connectivity, the iKmai offers a more versatile, comfortable, and immersive experience for daily use and extended trips. The adjustable headband and soft earpads make it the only logical choice for those with larger head sizes who need a headset that won't pinch or slip. If you prioritize total silence and endurance over the convenience of a tiny form factor, the iKmai is the clear winner.
Yes, the iKmai Headphone Hybrid Noise is designed with an adjustable headband and soft leather earpads specifically for comfort on larger heads, offering an impressive 75-hour battery life for extended use without recharging.
While marketed generally, the iKmai model delivers deep, powerful bass through its tuned drivers and fits well with adjustable bands suitable for larger head sizes, though it is primarily designed for adults rather than children.
Not necessarily; the Avantree Sky Ace uses a closed, in-ear design with fins to ensure a secure fit for medium to large ears, whereas open designs might not provide the same level of noise isolation or stability for active use.
The iKmai uses active hybrid noise cancellation to block up to 40dB of external sound, whereas the Avantree Sky Ace relies on a physical seal created by its ear tips and fins for passive noise isolation.
