If you want a versatile, high-fidelity wireless headset for children that doubles as a travel adapter with active noise cancellation, choose Avantree Relay; if you need ultra-thin, side-sleeper-friendly earbuds specifically designed for quiet sleep and passive noise blocking, choose Mudtun Sleep Earbuds Ultra-Thin.
• Avantree Relay: Strength lies in its dual-role design as a Bluetooth 5.3 transmitter and premium ANC earbuds; trade-off is the lack of a dedicated sleep-specific form factor or physical buttons for zero-touch operation. Best for families needing a robust audio solution for travel, flights, and general listening.
• Mudtun Sleep Earbuds Ultra-Thin: Strength is the ergonomic, low-profile shape tailored for side sleeping without pressure pain; trade-off is the absence of active noise cancellation and a shorter single-battery life compared to heavy-duty headphones. Best for kids who struggle to stay asleep due to environmental noise or who prefer soft, unintrusive wear.
The Avantree Relay is built for versatility rather than a single niche. At its core, it functions as a premium Bluetooth 5.3 adapter compatible with any device outputting audio via AUX, such as airplane seat systems, gym equipment, or older televisions. This makes it an ideal companion for travel, allowing parents to stream content from a tablet directly to their child's headphones on a flight, regardless of whether the plane uses a standard or dual-prong connector thanks to the included adapters. The earbuds themselves are designed for active listening environments, featuring hybrid Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) capable of blocking up to 24dB of environmental noise.
For a child who loves music, audiobooks, or games while commuting, this unit offers significant advantages. The inclusion of aptX-Adaptive codec support ensures high-quality audio transmission with low latency, which is critical for keeping video sync perfect during gaming or movie watching. Furthermore, the transparency mode allows users to hear their surroundings when necessary, a safety feature that might be appreciated by older children moving through busy areas. The touch controls provide intuitive access to volume and playback, though they require a bit more dexterity than simple buttons.

However, this product is not a bedtime solution. The design features rounded tips meant for an in-ear fit that prioritizes sound isolation and bass response over the ultra-flat profile needed for side sleeping. If your child is a restless sleeper who tosses and turns, these earbuds might become uncomfortable after an hour. Additionally, while the battery display in the case is helpful for tracking charge levels, the focus here is clearly on extended, active use rather than overnight reliability. Parents looking for a "set it and forget it" device for a night of white noise should look elsewhere.
In contrast, the Mudtun Sleep Earbuds Ultra-Thin are engineered with one specific goal: comfort during rest. These earbuds utilize an ergonomic curved shape that sits gently along the ear contour rather than deep inside the canal. This "non-in-ear" approach significantly reduces pressure points, making them suitable for side sleepers who typically find traditional bulky earbuds painful after just a few minutes. The ultra-thin, low-profile design minimizes the bulk against the pillow, addressing the primary complaint many adults and children have about wearing electronics while lying down.
A standout feature for nighttime use is the control scheme. Unlike many modern earbuds that rely on sensitive touch sensors, Mudtun uses physical push buttons. This prevents accidental pauses or volume changes when a child shifts position in bed. The design also eliminates low-battery beeping, a common source of frustration and sleep disruption. Instead, the system relies on a silent power-down, ensuring that the only sound in the room is the intended audio—be it white noise, ASMR, or a calming podcast.
These earbuds are tuned specifically for sleep audio. They offer customizable bass adjustment levels, allowing parents to tailor the sound to be softer and more balanced, which is essential for preventing overstimulation before bed. While they lack active noise cancellation, the passive noise blocking provided by the snug, acoustic seal is often sufficient for masking household hums or traffic noise. With a battery life of approximately 6 hours on a single charge, they cover most overnight sessions comfortably. The charging case includes an LED digital display, so you can quickly verify the remaining power without guessing. This product is the clear choice for families dealing with light sleepers or those who need a reliable way to block out distractions without the complexity of active electronic cancellation.

The Avantree Relay is a powerhouse for a hi-res wireless headset for children who are constantly on the move, offering the flexibility to connect to almost any audio source. Its physical buttons and silent operation remove the friction that often wakes a sleeping child, and the ultra-thin form factor ensures they won't wake up with sore ears.
