AV070 is sponsoring a workshop on Airport Electrification and Automation for Emerging Aerial Mobility (Workshop 1017) during the upcoming TRB Annual Meeting. The workshop will be held on Sunday, January 09 from 09AM to 12PM ET.
Airports are at the threshold of several transitions and breakthroughs that will change the face of aviation, affect the way we travel by air, and impact communities and businesses. They include but are not limited to: advanced air mobility, electric and hydrogen aircraft, artificial intelligence & machine learning, automation, mobility-as-a-service, etc. This collaborative and interactive workshop will explore the implications of all these changes for aviation facilities and their stakeholders.
During the workshop, participants will (1) identify policy and research needs for facilitating the accommodation of emerging aerial mobility; (2) understand the key airport/aircraft compatibility challenges when implementing advanced air mobility (AAM); and (3) understand the implications of emerging aerial mobility on diversity, equity, and inclusion, community planning, as well as airport resiliency.
Discussion topics will be curated into a list of proposed research ideas that will be developed into problem statements for the ACRP IdeaHub platform.

All attendees at the TRB Annual Meeting are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19, meaning that at least two weeks have passed since you received either a one-dose vaccine or the second dose of a two-dose vaccine. Any vaccine on the World Health Organization’s approved list is acceptable.
There are no exceptions to this requirement. If you will not be fully vaccinated by the date you arrive at the meeting, you will not be able to participate. TRB currently is evaluating several ways to confirm that attendees have proof of vaccination. As soon as full details are available, TRB will send them to you via email and post them on the TRB Annual Meeting COVID Health and Procedures web page.
The health and safety of all meeting attendees is of utmost importance to TRB. If you are not able to comply with the above requirements and prefer to cancel your registration, please note that you must do so by the December 17 deadline in order to receive a refund, less a $50 cancellation fee.

TRB is ending production of the TRB E-Newsletter in mid-August. Its place will be taken by the TRB Weekly newsletter. We are upgrading our software behind the scenes and we are unable to move our existing E-Newsletter subscribers to the TRB Weekly newsletter subscriber list. To continue to get research news from TRB every Tuesday, you must re-subscribe at https://www.mytrb.org/Profile/MyAccount/TRBWeekly. The new subscription process is through the MyTRB portal.
To re-subscribe, go to https://www.mytrb.org/Profile/MyAccount/TRBWeekly. If you don’t have a MyTRB account, go to the same link. The process will take just a moment longer. The new TRB Weekly will have enhanced deliverability, usability, and readability over TRB’s current E-Newsletter. FRA seeks to provide information to stakeholders about several research funding programs. Through the Broad Agency Announcement (BAA), the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) Program, and Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR), FRA makes opportunities available to government organizations, industry, and academia to conduct applied technology research. The agency then awards grants, contracts, or cooperative agreements to successful applicants.
Webinar attendees will learn about the different application requirements and timelines for each program. Anyone with an interest in understanding how FRA makes federal funding available for research is encouraged to attend.
Our next AV070 meeting will be on Monday, April 19 at 11:00 AM EDT. You will need to register in advance of the meeting at: https://nasem.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJEvcumuqDIpE9UOKKVAJhMSmWKabvRSbQmy.
There is no registration fee, but this registration step controls who is able to attend the meeting. After registering for the meeting, you will receive a confirmation email, which will contain the information needed to join the meeting.
Chair Ernie Heymsfield will send out the meeting agenda a few days ahead of the meeting. The meeting will include introducing our new AV070 members and thanking our retiring AV070 members for their service to AV070. Our new AV070 membership will be taking on a more international flavor as we work to develop collaboration between the AV070 and other national and international airfield groups.

TRB is announcing today that the TRB 100th Annual Meeting, originally scheduled to take place in Washington, D.C., will be conducted as a virtual event over a series of dates throughout January 2021 to address the threat of COVID-19.
Through an interactive virtual event platform, attendees will be able to join from anywhere in the world, experience presentation and poster sessions, workshops, exhibits, and committee meetings; and, most importantly, connect with other attendees – just as they have all come to expect from TRBAM each January. The keynotes, plenary sessions, breakout sessions, poster sessions, committee meetings, exhibits, and networking opportunities will be available to all full-registration attendees. Registration fees, which will be announced prior to registration opening in September, will be reduced in recognition of the challenges faced by TRB’s volunteers, friends, and supporters.
The dates of the Annual Meeting events are still to be determined. Committee meetings will be hosted earlier in the month, possibly in the first two weeks of January; sessions and exhibits will take place later in the month.
TRB will announce exact dates for TRBAM 2021 as soon as they are confirmed, and, as noted above, registration will open in September.
Here is the full announcement: http://www.trb.org/main/blurbs/180983.aspx. More information to come... Stay tuned.
The paper submission process is unchanged: http://www.trb.org/AnnualMeeting/CallForPaper.aspx. Don’t miss the August 1, 2020 deadline!
We want to remind you that August 1 is the deadline for submitting papers for the TRB Annual Meeting. The theme of the TRB Annual Meeting is: "Launching a New Century of Mobility and Quality of Life." It is still to be determined on how the TRB Annual Meeting will be presented, face-to-face, virtual, or hybrid.
Please consider submitting a paper for the TRB Annual Meeting for publication and presentation. Many of you have been involved in interesting and new challenges during this pandemic that would be of great interest to the TRB community, so consider summarizing that experience or other current research/case study work in a TRB paper.
Please consider writing a paper in collaboration with another committee partner of ours: ENAC Alumni, CAPTG, ICAO - ACN/PCN Task Force, Infra WG of UAF&FA, ALACPA, and Singapore-Pavement Engineering Society. If you want help in reaching out to one of these committees, please feel free to contact Chair Ernie Heymsfield and CCC Gaël Le Bris.
AV070 doesn’t have an official “Call for Papers”, because of the cross-cutting work that our members and friends are involved in and the large number of papers our group normally submits.
Mark your calendars. Our AV070 Midyear Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 28 at 11:00 AM EDT. The meeting will be held as a 1.5 hour virtual event.
Chair Ernie Heymsfield will send you the login information along with the meeting agenda nearer to the meeting date by email. The meeting will include special speakers, AV070 business, and latest information on the TRB Annual Meeting.

TRB is positioning itself to be the premier source of ideas, knowledge, and innovations to ensure that we continue to deliver on our mission in service to the country. A key part of this effort is a review and strategic alignment of the standing technical committees. The objectives of this alignment are to:
Refresh the TRB Technical Activities committees to better deliver transportation innovations that serve the country;
Attract the next generation of volunteers;
Foster greater collaboration across committees, building on our unique structure of multiple modes, disciplines, and sectors;
Create mechanisms to maintain a sustainable organization well into the future.
