The Operations Service Award is awarded for 60 hours underway, 30 hours airborne in a calendar year. It is awarded once the 60/30 hours are met anytime during the calendar year but is only awarded once in a year. A record is generated once a month by DIRAUX who enters the award.
If the boat crew/aircrew member accrues mega-cumulative U/W and/or ABN hours over their years in the Auxiliary, but consistently come-up short of hitting the 60/30-hour mark in a single calendar year, the member will never be awarded the Operations Service Award despite years of boating/flying.
As of the beginning of calendar year 2022, up to 15 training hours for on-the-water surface operations and up to 8 training hours of airborne aviation operations while assigned to duty, qualifies as operational service hours. Support for on-the-water readiness exercises does qualify as operational service. No combination of surface and air operations is allowable for this award. Support activity includes those entered in AUXDATA II with the activity codes of U/W, ABN, or TRN. See Auxiliary Annual Operations Service Award - 2022 Changes (below).
1. Complete a “Short Term Resident Training Request,” STTR, ANSC 7059 (10-19) available on the USCG Aux site “PDF Forms for Auxiliarists.” AUX-17 and AUX-18 are "C" Schools and both require the aviator to submit an STTR. The STTR is your request for a slot in the course AND your request for reimbursable orders.
2. Email completed form to your Flotilla Commander for signature.
3. Email signed form to ADSO-AV-T, PTorell.USCGAux@gmail.com (NOT TO DSO-AV WILSON RIGGAN) with a copy to your Aux Squadron Auxiliary Air Coordinator.
4. Verify ADSO-AV-T received the form. The process has started!
With respect to AUX-18, please be aware of several logistical and planning issues:
a. Unlike AUX-17 which is generally available within D7 (2024 in particular), the number slots that are available for AUX-18 are limited by travel budgets. As a result, the number of slots available to D7 vary from class to class and are based on assessment by the folks at National as to how to balance between need and availability. Aviators should plan their schedule to be able to attend several different AUX-18 sessions. No one should be putting this off until the end of the year and hoping they will get into the last available class.
b. Follow the process above for submitting an STTR. The completed STTR is sent to DSO-AV-T, PTorell.USCGAux@gmail.com (NOT TO DSO-AV WILSON RIGGAN). This facilitates the management of the STTR approval process along with the required interface with National on the number of slots. Pam and Wilson have developed a procedure which facilitates his signature on the STTRs at the appropriate time.
c. Aviators should be aware that the final class list is often set in close proximity to the class date. D7 does not set that list. D7 does not have access to any information about who is "in" prior to that date. Everyone should manage their expectations accordingly.
AUX18 counts as a swim test if you participated in the water portion. The instructor will email you a letter stating such and counts if your name is on the attendance list attached to the letter. AUX-18 completion is entered in AuxData by the instructor. Swim test completion in AUX-18 is not entered in AuxData by the instructor. Forward the letter and attendance list to the ADSO-AV-MP for entry in AuxData.

Ed Cook, the Auxiliary Aviation Coordinator for Air Station Miami, demonstrates how to create a patrol order list in AuxData. He explains that this list can be useful for crew members to match up with available missions and for facility owners to identify potential patrol conflicts. The process involves logging into AuxData, creating a new patrol order list, and applying filters to sort the list according to various parameters such as location and date. Ed also shows how to display specific fields like patrol date, owner's last name, request description, and the status of the patrol order. Finally, he demonstrated how to print the list for future reference.
