This project was a deep dive into social media. How often are we using social media? Are you and I addicted to social media? Through a survey and a quiz and reading into stats on social media we found out.
My results on the social media addiction quiz were that I might not be 100% addicted but I very well can be on my way. I need to reevaluate my time management on social media and make sure I only use it at appropriate times.
According to Pew Research, adults under 30 stand out for their use of Instagram, snapchat, and TikTok (Anderson, 2021)
As a 29-year-old I relate to this statistic most because of how often I use Instagram, snapchat and TikTok. I use Instagram often for my work because as a nail tech a lot of the people who want the type of nails I do, which usually is a younger crowd. As for snapchat, I enjoy the photo features and TikTok I probably use most compulsively, I use for news all around the world, music, art, inspiration, cooking, shopping etc. the list goes on.
Social media impacts society in many ways and on so many different levels as well. There is so much to factor in when it comes to social media because it can have both negative and positive impacts. For example you can use social media as a tool and learn to do so many things that you possibly wouldn’t have the time to learn. For example, you can learn to cook quick healthy meals online on Tiktok or Youtube in under a hour vs taking a class at a institution that would cost money and a lot more time.
In the same hand social media can negatively impact you by becoming addicted, I have came across content creators on Tiktok that have completely lost their grip on reality due to their obsession with staying online or “Live” for hours or days at a time. Just like with anything in life there has to be a healthy balance.
This module has covered different ways that social media has impacted us in good and bad ways I was surprised to learn my social media addiction is not as bad as I thought it would have been according to the social media quiz.
