Arriving in Budapest
If you arrive by plane to the Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport you can choose either of the following three options to reach the city centre:
Taxi: Immediately outside the doors of the terminal you will find an official taxi counter where you can order a taxi. When you order a taxi you will receive a note with the registration plate number and you need to look out for that particilar taxi. Taxis will normally accept card, including contactless payment with apple pay etc. The price of a taxi will vary depending on exactly where you travel but currently the rate to the city centre is roughly HUF10800 (€28).
Express bus: You will find two bus stands outside the terminal. One of them is for the express airport bus, 100E which costs HUF2200 (€5.60) and goes straight to the city centre an around 30min and stops at Kálvin tér and Deák Ferenc tér, from which there is a short walk to most of the recommended accomodations. Bus tickets can be bought at the machine next to the bus stop, from the staff in front of the bus, or using the Budapest GO app.
Standard bus The other bus stop serves the 200E bus which takes you to Kőbánya-Kispest from which you can take metro M3 to the city centre. The entire journey takes about 60min and cost two (one for the bus and one for the metro) standard tickets á HUF450 so totals HUF900 (€2.30). The bus tickets are bought either from the machine next to the bus stop or from the bus driver. Note that the bus driver only takes cash, might not give change and tickets are a bit more expensive so the best option is to use the machine or the Budapest GO app.
