I wanted a simple, real time (idc if its not 100% accurate) cfd program and came across autodesk flow design. I went to the autodesk website and they had discontinued it. Ok, no big problem, right? Most discontinued programs are available as abandonware on archive sites or whatever. After hours of searching i found absolutely nothing. Why is this? Also, does anybody have any other relatively simple cfd programs? I tried autodesk cfd demo and couldnt to anything, nor find tutorials.

How do students get access to flow design in their accounts? I am a teacher and my account allows me access to all the software. However, when my students login to their Autodesk account they only have access to a few programs. How do they get access to other programs including Flow Design?

Why should engineers and specialists have all the fun when it comes to airflow simulation for a cool new product or building? Designers and other creators can get in on the action too with Autodesk Flow Design software, formerly Project Falcon from Autodesk Labs.

This type of early conceptual understanding can benefit a wide range of users, including vehicle designers that need to understand how aerodynamic performance is impacted by form changes; building designers that need to see how a cluster of new buildings might effect wind levels in the pedestrian areas connecting them; and consumer product designers who want to see how their conceptual design for, say, a golf club or a helmet, behaves in the wind.

Getting started is easy. Flow Design is extremely geometry tolerant and can accept model types ranging from conceptual designs all the way to fully detailed models, with little or no preparation necessary. Users of Autodesk Inventor 3D CAD software and Autodesk Revit Building Information Modeling (BIM) software can use Flow Design directly within their design while other 3D CAD users can leverage a standalone Flow Design interface.

Once the model has been entered, Flow Design provides real-time feedback, enabling users to visualize wind interacting with their designs. They can instantly see how the airflow circulates and recirculates, visualizing where wakes will form, and where there will be high and low pressure regions.

I am a sailplane designer builder pilot who has flown about 1800 hrs with various gliders, most of it with a JT-6, a prototype for PIK-20E motor glider produced later on. This was about 40 years ago ( ). This machine had a glide ratio of about 40.

Yes, I was able to run the Flow Design but the results were very far from real aircraft drag values. I have a good stl-model of the PIK-20 glider. Using it the Flow design calculated a drag of about twice of the real value. You can read about PIK-20 in Wikipedia ( -Avion_PIK-20).

However the flow Design gave 230 N as the lowest Drag value at 100 kmh (= 27 m/s). This means that the glide ratio would be about 17 which is ridiculous! World gliding championships were won with this glider in 1976.

Flow design is for product designers, it's fast but 'rough'. It would be good for seeing if a tweak to a model impacts the gross values, but I wouldn't expect precise results out of it. Autodesk clearly states this in their marketing materials.

However, I found a different use for the Flow design in my aerodynamic experiments. I have programmed two software packages to compute the performance of rotary wing aircraft. Both of them are available for free in the net:

In both of these software packages the fuselage drag is estimated in very rough steps. Using the Flow Design I was able to predict the drag coefficient of some aircraft types since I already had a 3D CAD model of them. Examples are the JT-5 autogyro (my own design) and the Robinson R 22 helicopter.

Now launch Autodesk Flow Design and choose to Import your file (Want to download my duck? Go grab it from the Fusion 360 gallery). Once opened, the flow around your duck and pressure on it will immediately start calculating. Since this is a simple model you will start to see results very quickly. For larger geometry it can sometimes take a few minutes to start seeing the flow.

Over time, the united production pipeline enables seamless workflows that expand from post-production to other areas of the production pipeline. Flow provides immediate access to production data, connecting production phases and improving efficiency. Flow is designed for both television and animation production but also provides insights for game developers on enhancing workflows and managing project assets, stakeholders, and complexities.

Autodesk has also teamed up with Wonder Dynamics to automate creative workflows with AI to automatically animate, light, and compose CG characters in a live-action scene. The new Maya plug-in allows Maya users to export CG characters from Autodesk Maya into Wonder Studio seamlessly. Artists can also export 3D scenes out of Wonder Studio back into Maya, controlling each element, such as animation, camera, and lighting data.

One of those clouds had a head start compared to the other two. The Fusion model in its earlier form launched a decade ago with the vision of unifying the siloed product design and manufacturing process. Autodesk continues to grow Fusion, digitally connecting data and making it available to everyone involved in a project throughout its life cycle.

The key to Flow is connecting not just different tools and teams, but also different parts of production, especially parts that have been historically siloed, such as film production units and visual effects teams. Autodesk is also working with outside companies to provide users with the latest in AI innovation. For instance, Wonder Dynamics recently announced Maya integration so AI can be used to automatically animate, light, and compose CG characters in a live-action scene. With the new Maya plug-in, Maya users can seamlessly export CG characters from Maya into Wonder Studio. Artists also will be able to export 3D scenes with animation, camera, and lighting data out of Wonder Studio and back into Maya, with full creative control of each individual element.
