Our Impact
For radiologists, pathologists, and cytotechnologists in sub-Saharan Africa who need a more consistent method of performing biopsies for breast cancer diagnosis, AutoAspira provides a reusable and affordable alternative that improves the efficacy of the existing procedure. Our device removes the human error associated with traditional FNA while augmenting its existing capabilities with multimodal physical agitation to more efficiently collect clinically diagnostic samples.
The hiearchical structure of healthcare systems in SSA countries makes FNA inaccessible to the population. Most of Tier 3 and 4 hospitals that perform such procedures are located in capital cities, whereas the majority of the population (up to 80%) live in rural areas.
Even when the patients are able to receive procedure, FNA has high false-negative and inconclusive sample rates, causing patients to drop from the treatment pathway.
