The AutoAero is a project currently in development and headed by students at the University of Victoria. These quad copters are being designed for commercial applications including, but not limited to: aerial mapping and surveying, pipeline management and inspection, Emergency Services, exploration, security and monitoring, industrial applications, and much more.
The long-term goal is to have a wide variety of features that can be chosen based on the needs of the user or company. These will include: automated flight, obstacle detection and avoidance, long range data transmission, high definition video, and more. We are also invested in creating software applications for the drone's on-board computer to make the user's purpose even more automated.
We are currently in the development of the automation in flight control and computer vision. This will be completely separate from the user's experience. The purpose of the AutoAero series is to have a hands-free, thought-free system that allows you to own the convenience of an automated system.
R&D topics include: tethering of devices for even longer range usage and symbiosis, neural networking for automatic workloads, integrating with databases and cloud storage, personalized telemetry, long range data transmission and more.
We are a group of UVic students with different skills from different backgrounds. Check out the team here!
