Why buy this product?
If you discover rust on any iron or steel object you can use a rust converter to restore the material and have it ready for painting. Rust Converter is a water based product that converts rust into a stable form of iron tannate that can be worked with as you would new metal prior to repainting. The overall chemical reaction converts rust into a stable, black protective polymeric coating that serves as an excellent primer for both oil and epoxy based paints.
How to use?
Good surface preparation will enable the Rust Converter to work effectively and leads to a high quality end result. You will want to remove large rust and scale particles with a stiff bristled brush, hammer or sandpaper (the point is not to remove all of the rust, this is counterintuitive to a good result as you need the rust to restore the surface)
Saturate the area with water and allow to penetrate - clean and degrease the surface then allow to dry
Apply Rust Converter with a brush/roller/spray
The Rust Converter will then penetrate to the base and convert outwards
As the rust is not being scrapped but being turned into useful metal it will degrade slower than if the rust was removed them the base treated/primed
No need to topcoat immediately after use as the Rust Converter will protect it for some time before painting
Use oil based or epoxy paints to paint over Rust Converter, do not use Latex or water based paints
Once it’s been exposed and used, it should not be returned to the bottle with any unused liquid
