If you want professional-grade over-ear isolation and durability for long studio sessions or loud environments, choose Austrian Audio; if you need portable, high-resolution in-ear precision with a focus on vocal clarity and sub-bass punch for critical listening anywhere, choose Linsoul Kiwi Ears Astral.
• Austrian Audio Hi-X60: Strengths include exceptional passive noise isolation, metal construction for durability, and memory foam comfort for all-day wear; the trade-off is its bulk and wired-only design which limits portability compared to true wireless options. Best for professionals who prioritize sound accuracy and physical comfort in stationary or travel-heavy but non-portable settings.
• Linsoul Kiwi Ears Astral: Strengths feature a hybrid driver setup delivering deep sub-bass and neutral midrange in a lightweight, 3D-printed shell; the trade-off is the lack of passive noise cancellation and an open fit that lets ambient sound in. Best for audiophiles and gamers seeking a compact, foldable earbuds solution for airplane travel or mobile mixing where size matters most.
The Austrian Audio Hi-X60 is built for people who treat audio as a serious craft rather than just background entertainment. Its closed-back design isn't just a style choice; it is a functional necessity for environments where sound leakage is unacceptable. Whether you are tracking vocals in a small booth or working front-of-house at a live event, the high passive-noise suppression ensures you hear exactly what is there without external interference. This makes it one of the best foldable gaming headset options for airplane travel if you prioritize total immersion over ambient awareness, though its size does require more packing space than smaller alternatives.
Durability is a core pillar of this headphone. The use of metal hinges and a metal bow means these aren't disposable consumer electronics. They are engineered to withstand the rigors of daily professional use. When combined with replaceable ear pads and headband cushions, the Hi-X60 offers a longevity that few competitors match. You can swap out worn components to keep them fresh, making it a cost-effective investment over time despite the higher upfront commitment required by the build quality. The 44mm High Excursion drivers with ring magnet systems deliver a linear frequency response from 5Hz to 28kHz, ensuring that every detail from the deepest bass to the highest treble is rendered with surgical precision.

However, this product demands a specific lifestyle. If you need something that fits easily into a pocket or requires zero cable management, the Hi-X60 will frustrate you. It is a wired device with a 3.5mm jack connection, meaning you are tethered to your source unless you invest in a separate adapter. The weight of 2.2 pounds also means it sits heavily on your head, which is fine for a studio chair but might feel cumbersome during a long flight if you are trying to sleep. It is ideal for the engineer who needs to detect errors in a mix or the musician who requires a stable, fatigue-free experience during marathon recording sessions. If you value "Made in Austria" craftsmanship and a sound signature that prioritizes transparency and error detection above all else, this is your tool.
The Linsoul Kiwi Ears Astral targets the listener who refuses to compromise on fidelity while needing the freedom of movement. As a hybrid in-ear monitor featuring a single dynamic driver paired with six balanced armature drivers, it delivers a sonic landscape that bridges the gap between warm, impactful bass and crisp, detailed highs. The 10mm bioceramic diaphragm dynamic driver provides a powerful 9dB sub-bass shelf that transitions smoothly into the low-midrange, eliminating the disjointed feeling often found in multi-driver setups. This tuning makes it an excellent choice for those who enjoy music with heavy low-end but still demand accurate vocal reproduction.
Portability is the defining characteristic of the Astral. Weighing significantly less than the over-ear alternative, it utilizes a 3D printed resin shell that conforms comfortably to the ear canal. This design allows for extended listening sessions without the pressure points common in rigid plastic earbuds. The unique black gold-sprinkled faceplate adds a touch of sophistication, but the real magic lies in the acoustic engineering. The custom SWFK balanced armature tweeter extends ultra-treble frequencies up to 15kHz with a smooth roll-off, avoiding the harshness that plagues many budget IEMs. With a frequency range of 10Hz to 22kHz, it captures a vast spectrum of audio content, making it a strong contender for the best hifi stereo in ear earbuds for airplane travel.
That said, the Astral lacks active or even significant passive noise cancellation. Because it is an open-fit in-ear monitor, ambient noise will penetrate the ear cup during flights or in busy offices. If you rely on silence to focus, this might be a dealbreaker. Additionally, being a wired device with a 3.5mm connection, it shares the same tethered limitation as the Austrian Audio, though its lighter form factor makes the cable less of a burden. It is perfect for the producer who wants to check mixes on the go, the gamer who needs precise positional audio without the bulk of a headset, or the traveler who values the ability to carry their studio monitors in a small case. If your priority is a balanced, tonally correct sound that feels natural and doesn't fatigues your ears, the Astral delivers that with impressive efficiency.

In my opinion, the choice ultimately comes down to whether you prioritize immersion or mobility. For a dedicated workspace or a situation where you need to block out the world completely, the Austrian Audio Hi-X60 is the superior engineering marvel. However, for the modern traveler or mobile creative who needs high-fidelity audio that doesn't weigh them down, I would buy the Linsoul Kiwi Ears Astral. Its hybrid driver system offers a level of tonal balance and sub-bass control that rivals much larger headphones, and its compact form factor makes it the clear winner for anyone looking for the best foldable gaming headset for airplane use or the best hifi stereo in ear earbuds for airplane travel. If I were packing a bag for a trip today, the Astral goes in first because it simply works better in a world that is constantly moving.
The Austrian Audio Hi-X60 excels here due to its closed-back design and passive noise suppression, creating a quiet environment for listening. The Linsoul Kiwi Ears Astral, while comfortable, does not offer significant noise isolation and relies on a seal that may let some ambient sound through.
Yes, the Austrian Audio Hi-X60 features detachable cables (two included) and fully replaceable ear pads and headband pads for hygiene and longevity. The Linsoul Kiwi Ears Astral uses a fixed cable design, so if the cable fails, the entire unit requires replacement.
Both are capable, but the Austrian Audio Hi-X60 is explicitly designed for mixing and mastering with its linear frequency response and high-excursion drivers. The Linsoul Kiwi Ears Astral is tuned for accurate playback with a neutral midrange, making it suitable for reference listening on the go.
