In 2025, Australia competed in the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) for the first time. The event was held in Mumbai, India. The team did very well with one of the students winning a silver medal.
Building on the momentum of competing in 2025, Australia is planning to send a team to the IOAA 2026 (Vietnam) and IOAA 2026 Junior (Thailand). In order to select students to take part in training and represent Australia, OzGrav will be hosting Australia's first Astronomy Olympiad on the 24th of February 2026.
Registration has been extended until the 16th of February. If you are a teacher you can register students from your school for the 2026 Olympiad here: https://www.trybooking.com/DHPYZ before February the 16th.
If registration has not been completed by this date please contact Lachlan McGinness directly at lachlan.mcginness@asi.edu.au to organise late registration. For registration, you only need to know the number of students, not their names or year levels.
If you are a student interested in competing or a teacher interested in the competition, please complete this Google Form and we will add you to the mailing list to receive updates.
