Are you a resident of South Australia currently planning to go solar? Well, there’s good news for you. SA is offering some highly lucrative solar incentives to residents in 2021.
Without a doubt, the electricity bills in South Australia are the highest throughout the world. According to the AEMC (Australian Energy Market Commission), an average price of 37.6 cents per kWh of energy is reported for the year 2019 – 2020.
However, South Australian residents can now overcome these high costs by going solar. And for that, the government is ready to provide the aid necessary.
2021 Solar Incentives in South Australia
In 2021, you can find two incentive programs in South Australia pertaining to solar energy. First is the national Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme and the second is the City of Adelaide Sustainability Incentives Scheme.
Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme
While a direct solar power incentive is not included in the SRES, you can still receive STCs that stand for “small-scale technology certificates”. These certificates make you eligible to receive a discount on solar PV installations.
Yet, if you want to install a 6.6 kW solar PV system in Adelaide, you can get 91 STCs. The cost of a single STC is currently set at $38. This means that you can be eligible to receive an incentive of $3,458. At the same time, you can expect to pay around $10,500 for a single 6.6 kW solar PV installation without any discounts. So, an incentive of 3,458 means that the total costs will be around $7,042.
This means that the incentives from the STCs can help you cover up to 33% of the total installation cost. While this might not be enough for many people, it is certainly a huge lay-off. After all, the one-time installation costs of a solar PV system can be high.
City of Adelaide Sustainability Incentives
In Adelaide, homeowners who want to go solar can get additional incentives from the government. This would cover up to 20% of the installation costs of a solar PV system. The limit, however, depends on the capacity of the system in kW.
For instance, systems that are between 1.5 KW and 10 KW can get up to $1000 worth of incentives. At the same time, systems between 10 KW – 20 KW can get around $2500 worth of incentives. Systems that are more than 20 KW in capacity get a $5000 incentive.
The best thing about this incentive is that it is available to both residential landlords and concession cardholders. Along with that, business owners can also get this incentive. For apartment buildings, the maximum incentive is $500 per apartment or up to $20000 for a single side. Though, this would apply to solar installations with a capacity of more than 20 KW.
Is that All?
But that is not all. The Solar System Adelaide also includes a home battery scheme incentives ($300 per kWh for holders of energy concession and $200 per kWh for other house owners), and a Retailer Energy Productivity Scheme. You may want to contact your nearest solar installers to learn more about these incentives.
