National Register of Folklore Collections
In the 1980s a survey of libraries, archives and private collectors was undertaken through Curtin University to determine the extent of archival holdings of Australian folklore. In the early 2000s the AFN undertook a further survey that indicated a decrease in the number of folklore holdings around the country. This disappointing situation seems to have been the result of some institutions discarding or misplacing their collections. Some organisations did not reply to the survey.
The Register on this page is the early 2000s version and should be used with the above limitations in mind. When resources allow, the AFN hopes to again update the survey.
In the meantime, researchers wishing further information on current folklore archives and collections (public and private) should contact the AFN via ausfolklore@gmail.com.
