Aurora Dash is a dashboard launcher for car screens. It has no accounts, no ads and no analytics, and it does not sell or share your data. This page explains exactly what the app uses and why.
Weather: your approximate location (rounded to about 1 km) is sent to the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (MET Norway) (api.met.no) to get the local forecast. No account or identifier is sent. See MET Norway's terms.
If location permission is off, the app asks GeoJS (get.geojs.io) for your approximate city based on your IP address, only to show weather.
Speed, compass and trip: precise GPS location is used on the device only. It is never stored or sent anywhere.
The last known coordinates are saved on the device to work out sunrise and sunset times.
If you allow it, Aurora Dash reads the currently playing media (song, artist, artwork) to show the music tile, and shows new notifications briefly on the dashboard. Nothing is stored or sent off the device.
If you turn it on, the accessibility service is used to press Back, Home and Recents for you (many cars have no system buttons), to find where the navigation app's window is, and to place and resize that window on the map tile. It does not read the text or content on your screen, and nothing is stored or sent.
Display over other apps: shows the floating dock and the map's rounded frame.
List installed apps: needed for the app drawer, like any home screen.
Modify system settings (optional): lowers screen brightness at night.
Start at boot: starts the dashboard and resumes music when the car starts.
In Settings → Diagnostics you can choose to send a bug report to the developer. Nothing is sent unless you tap Send report. A report contains only:
the text you type into the report box;
your device model, Android version, screen size and app version;
the app's recent diagnostics log (what the map and dock did, e.g. window sizes). It does not include your location, contacts, accounts or screen content.
Reports are delivered to the developer's private Discord channel (Discord Inc. hosts the message) and are used only to find and fix bugs. To have a report deleted, email ishirakurei@gmail.com.
Your settings are stored only on the device. A settings backup is a file you choose to save yourself. Uninstalling the app removes everything.
Aurora Dash is meant for drivers and is not directed at children.
