Movie Database Analysis (2012-2016)
how to maximize revenue/profit generated from a movie?
This project was undertaken independently by me due to my love for movies and the urge to derive answers from raw data.
The goal here was to find out what genre of movie combined with which director or which top billed actors released at which time of the year could generate the most revenue or profit for a movie studio.
The first image (above) illustrates the dashboard created to visualize the different movie genres and the overall revenue they generated between 2012-2016. The two graphs on the top of the dashboard image represent the directors and actors that generated the most box office revenue for each genre, the bubble graph shows which months are best for movie releases if you are looking for high box office revenue and the image on the bottom right shows movie profitability by genre when released in each month. So for example if the genre is set to Comedy, we would be able to find out exactly which director-actor combo to use and which month to release the movie in to maximize our chances of success.
The images below represent the most profitable actors and directors in the year 2016 which could be used for historical analysis.
The Movie database was obtained during the course of completing the Google Data Analytics Certification on Coursera and as such remains confidential. The data being mostly pre cleaned was analyzed using SQL on the BigQuery platform. Visualizations were created on Tableau.
