Many younger Latinx students may face struggles related to their identity and culture, and the provided resources have been created as a way for a counselor to bridge the personal gap between themselves and an apprehensive Latinx client - they may be concerned for their own success but also deeply connected to the Latinx value of familismo and feel anchored to their family unit. The student may also be worried for their safety, the safety of their family, and the uncertainty of their academic future. The Counselor's Resource is meant to prepare the counselor to practice cultural humility, and the Client's Worksheets are to be given in-between sessions to provoke introspection in a familiar form to the student. The first worksheet may be situational, and focuses on counseling clients with struggles that may be specific to their culture. The second is more generalized, but utilizes core Latinx values of family and personal connection to reframe counseling into something positive for both the client and their family.
