Auļi & Abiana

Auļi and Abiana’s collaboration began at WOMEX 2024 in Manchester, when Auļi’s Kaspars Bārbals met Apprise Music CEO Michael Bamfo. Soon after, Abiana joined Auļi’s international project Voices of the Ancestors, leading to the release of the mini-album Voices of Ghana. The record features three traditional Ghanaian folk songs, each performed in a different local dialect, reimagined through Auļi’s signature Baltic sound of bagpipes and powerful drum arrangements.

In 2025, Auļi traveled to Ghana to meet Abiana in person and film a music video together, capturing the spirit of their cross-continental musical dialogue. Blending ancient West African vocal melodies with Baltic bagpipe themes and driving percussion.

A Voices of the Ancestors tour in Latvia is planned for 2027, with Abiana joining Auļi on stage to introduce European audiences to the beauty and energy of West African melodies through this unique world-fusion collaboration.

Eldah Naa Abiana Dickson, known professionally as Abiana, is an acclaimed Ghanaian singer, songwriter, and composer. She began her career in 2013 as a backup vocalist for Afro Harmony Band and became lead singer of Hsykul Band in 2014. In 2020, she launched her solo career, signing with +233 Records.

Abiana gained major recognition through her feature on Okyeame Kwame’s 2019 hit “Bolgatanga Girl,” which won Record of the Year at the 2020 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA). Her debut single “Adunlei” (Oct 2020) earned VGMA nominations for Best Female Vocal Performance and Songwriter of the Year, winning Best Female Vocal Performance. She later created the theme song for TV3’s Ghana’s Most Beautiful and received further VGMA and 4Syte Music Video Awards nominations.

Blending Soul, Hi-life, and Neo-soul (“Soul Life”), Abiana also plays guitar and continues building a loyal, global audience through authentic, organic growth.

The bagpipe and drum music group Auļi was established in 2003 to promote and advance bagpipe music in Latvia. Despite historical evidence of bagpipe playing in Latvia dating back to the 16th century, there are few recorded materials in folklore archives. As a result, the group has focused on creating original music with a strong influence of folk music. Over the past 20 years, the group has recorded 12 studio albums and performed in more than 1000 concerts. Auļi has collaborated with singers from various countries, as well as with rock and pop groups, orchestras, and choirs. Key composers of Auļi music include group members Kaspars Bārbals, Mārtiņš Miļevskis, and Edgars Kārklis. The group's versatility in adapting to different music programs has made them a popular choice for summer festivals and relaxed music enjoyment in a concert halls.
