Grant Period: 1 September 2022 through 31 August 2023
Eligibility: All AU music majors, including seniors who plan to graduate in spring 2023, are eligible to apply.
Applicants must have a minimum major GPA of 3.50 and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
Application Process: Follow these steps to successfully complete the grant application -
1. READ the application announcement to ensure that you and your intended course of study are eligible for funding.
2. CREATE the following materials:
· A proposal document describing your intended course of study, how it will be implemented, how or what it will contribute to your artistic/scholarly development, and how you plan to share the results with the American University Music Program upon its completion (max 1000 words). Please include a short budget outline, delineating in what way the funds will support your project (travel, tuition, lesson/class fees, materials, etc.) as well as a timeline indicating relevant dates and schedule for your activities (at the very least, your start date and end date).
**All budget expenditures need to be directly linked to the summer study project and are subject to approval**
· A work sample demonstrating your background pursuits as they are relevant to your planned course of study (for example: a sample of a research paper (no more than 5 pages of your best academic writing), or a recording of a live or studio performance (5 minutes or less), or a score or recording of an original composition, etc.
3. UPLOAD these materials to cloud or online storage (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.).
You may choose to upload all the files to a folder, but each file should have its own link to view/download.
Note: Links to streaming media for recordings (YouTube, Vimeo, Soundcloud, Bandcamp, etc.) are acceptable.
4. COMPLETE THE ONLINE APPLICATION FORM. (Click "Application Form" above to access)
It will ask you for:
· Name, address, email, telephone
· Your current year in the program, your major GPA and your cumulative GPA
· The email address of a faculty recommender (the committee will contact individually for recommendations)
· The general focus of your study (broadly considered as either performance or research)
· An abstract (approx. 300 words) describing your project
· Links to the requested documents. Make sure your links work and are set to “public” for viewing!
5. SUBMIT the Online Application Form. All fields are required.
Upon submission, you should receive a confirmation screen.
COMPLETE APPLICATIONS are due by THURSDAY, 1 DECEMBER 2022 at 11:59pm EST.
Awards will be announced early in the Spring 2023 semester.
