In Ireland, August marks the Celtic Festival of Lughnasagh. Named after the god Lugh, it celebrates the beginning of the harvest season. Traditionally, it is held on August 1st, or about halfway between the Summer Solstice and Autumn Equinox. August therefore, is the start of Autumn in Ireland, however in meteorological terms it is still Summer.
