Thank you so much for your support as we navigated a very unique and challenging school year. Though the school year did not go the way we originally planned; with your help, we were still able to make it a successful year for our students. I could not be more proud of their hard work, determination, and growth this year. I also want to recognize the tremendous effort that the Audubon staff put forth to continually change and evolve their practices to ensure that our students could learn and grow despite many challenges and obstacles.
As we enter into the summer, I know that many of you have questions regarding the 2021-22 school year and which safety precautions will be in place. Unfortunately, at this time, I do not have a lot of information regarding next year's guidelines. As we get closer to the start of the school year, we will reach out with that information.
I hope each of you has a happy and safe summer.

Dear Audubon Family,
Each year we emphasize our Guidelines for Success to students. These guidelines include grit, empathy, self-control, integrity, and embracing diversity. There is no doubt that the challenges of 2020 have been ones that truly test each of these guidelines for our students, our teachers, and our families. As we draw closer to the mid-point of the school year and the close of 2020, I wanted to reach out and say Thank you.
Thank you for your grace, patience, and flexibility as we learn how to teach in totally different manner than we have ever taught before.
Thank you for your grit and determination to endure the chaos of a pandemic while also taking on ensuring that your child continues to learn.
Thank you for being an example of life-long learning to your student and learning with us on how to best instruct students in a virtual and hybrid manner.
Thank you for being a blessing to Audubon and working alongside us as we work to help your child become the best version of him or herself.
And finally, Thank you for entrusting us with your child. Every student at Audubon is precious to us and we do not take this responsibility lightly.
I hope you and your family have Happy Holidays, a very Merry Christmas, and an outstanding start to 2021!
Caleb York

Important Information
The goal of DCPS is to provide every child with a great education. Student participation is key to a great education. During distance learning, participation is a measure of a student’s engagement in the instructional process. It is NOT a measure of the quality of student work. Students who fail to participate will be considered truant and may not be able to proceed to the next grade level.
Below you will find a video and a slide deck regarding the transition to Distance Learning.

As the weather outside is getting colder we will be changing some of our morning procedures. Temperature checks for all car-riders will take place inside of the classroom. This means your student can enter the building without a temperature check each morning. We will still have staff outside to help your student exit the vehicle and enter the school building.

Hello Parents,
I hope your family is safe and healthy! We want to give your child the best education possible, and our teachers need your help. Due to the pandemic and tighter budgets, we need to raise funds for the essential tools our teachers need to help our students succeed.
In light of current events, student and staff safety has become our most important issue. That’s why we are partnering with a company that specializes in safe, no-contact fundraising. They have helped schools like ours raise more than $150 million dollars.
This safe and easy fundraiser is 100% online so there is no face-to-face selling, collecting money, or delivering products. Participation only takes 12 minutes, and your child will win fun and exciting prizes. Every student will receive a valuable Wild Republic Hugger or earbuds, just for participating. More prizes will be rewarded when goals are reached. Please help now. It really will make a difference.

State law requires that our Site-Based Council have minority representation. Through our initial nomination and election process, we did not elect a minority representative. We must now elect an additional teacher as well as parent rep for the council. These one-year positions are open to minorities (see state definition below).
(1) For the purpose of this section:
(a) "Minority" means American Indian; Alaskan native; African-American; Hispanic, including persons of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, and Central or South American origin; Pacific Islander; or other ethnic groups underrepresented in the school;
As a parent representative on the Site Base Council, you will be working with the principal, two other parents, and teachers discussing issues on policy, procedures, textbook selection, parent involvement, budget, etc. throughout the school year. To serve on the council, all new members must receive six hours of training and attend each of the monthly meetings.
In order to be on the ballot, a parent or guardian may nominate themselves or another parent in writing to me. If you nominate another parent, please make sure the parent is willing to serve. You must have a child who will be attending Audubon during the years of service on the council. Parent members of the council may not be a relative of an employee of Audubon Elementary. Relatives are husband, wife, father, mother, son, daughter, aunt, uncle, brother, sister, son-in-law, and daughter-in-law.

Audubon Elementary School Families -
In the past, some of our families have dropped off children at Audubon Elementary School with the understanding that they would catch the middle/high school bus to go to their own school. Please be aware that we are not able to provide supervision for those students this year.
Only students and staff members of Audubon Elementary School will be allowed to enter our school. We do not have adequate staff to provide supervision for children who are not students at our school and ensure compliance with health and safety guidelines.
Students attending middle or high schools may ride the bus from their home. If for some reason this is not possible, parents may remain ON SITE with the older student in their vehicle until the middle/high school bus arrives. You must be parked in an area that does not interfere with our morning drop-off or bus lanes.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Dear Audubon Families,
We are excited about the upcoming school year. Our Audubon team has been very busy working to make sure 2020-21 is a great year. As you are aware the opening of school is an ever changing situation. We appreciate your patience and support as we continue to work toward the first day of school. By now you should have selected your preference for In-Person instruction or the Virtual Academy. If you chose Virtual Academy, please know that we are still here to serve you. Please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns. Below you will find important information regarding Back to School.
Our office is open every weekday from 8am - 2pm. If you need assistance or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. You can also email aesinfo@dcps.org
If you chose In-Person instruction you should be notified of your child’s placement (A schedule or B schedule) by Aug 19th
Many yearbooks and student materials are still at Audubon. You are welcome to stop by the office starting next week (Tuesday) to pick them up

The first day of school is August 26th.
We will be having Back to School Drive Thru nights for all of our students. Those nights can be found below. On that night you will get to Meet your child’s teacher, Drop off School Supplies, and Pick up your car-tags and other needed information.
Please see the A/B Schedule below. During our first 3 weeks the schedule will be a little different.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation
