The perception of speech and music both rely on the processing of dimensions such as pitch and duration. However, the usefulness of these dimensions may vary across the two domains, with pitch playing a particularly important role in music compared to speech. This study asks whether the salience of acoustic dimensions does indeed differ across domains (i.e. in speech versus in non-speech), and if there are stable individual differences in the relative salience of acoustic dimensions across domains.
