If you want critical sonic accuracy, durable studio-grade construction, and zero wireless latency for professional monitoring, choose Audio-Technica ATH-M50x; if you need active noise cancellation, all-day battery life, and seamless wireless freedom for travel or commuting, choose Anker Soundcore Space 2.
• Audio-Technica ATH-M50x: Offers exceptional clarity with deep bass through large aperture drivers and superior sound isolation, but sacrifices wireless convenience for a wired-only connection.
• Anker Soundcore Space 2: Delivers impressive 70-hour battery life, hybrid active noise cancellation, and Bluetooth 6.1 connectivity, though it lacks the specific studio-monitor tuning of its rival.
• Best For: The M50x is for engineers, musicians, and audiophiles who demand precision; the Space 2 is for travelers, commuters, and casual listeners who value comfort and battery endurance.
The Audio-Technica ATH-M50x is built for people who treat listening as a job or a serious hobby rather than just background noise. Its design centers on professional utility, featuring circumaural earcups that contour tightly around the ears to provide excellent sound isolation in loud environments. This isn't just about keeping music in; it is about keeping external chaos out so you can hear every detail in the mix. The proprietary 45-millimeter large aperture drivers are engineered to deliver exceptional clarity throughout an extended frequency range, ensuring that the deep, accurate bass response doesn't muddy the mids or highs.
For audio engineers, producers, and DJs, this headphone is a standard tool because it reveals flaws in recordings that cheaper gear hides. The 90-degree swiveling earcups allow for one-ear monitoring, a feature essential for checking cues while keeping one ear open to the room. The build quality reflects this professional pedigree, using professional grade earpad and headband materials designed specifically for durability and long-term comfort during marathon sessions. Whether you are mixing tracks in a home studio or critiquing a live performance, the M50x provides a reference-quality sound signature that has been praised by top audio reviewers for its neutrality and detail.

However, this focus on fidelity comes with a significant trade-off: the M50x is a wired device only. It connects via a 3.5 mm jack and does not support any form of Bluetooth or wireless streaming. If you rely on your phone for podcasts, Spotify, or YouTube without cables, this product will not fit your workflow. Additionally, while the earpads are durable, the over-ear design is strictly circumaural, meaning it seals the ear completely rather than resting lightly on them. You must be comfortable with the physical sensation of pressure and isolation to use these effectively.
The Anker Soundcore Space 2 is designed for the modern nomad who needs headphones that adapt to their environment rather than demanding total silence. Its primary strength lies in its ability to handle the unpredictability of travel and daily commutes. The device features a 4-stage low-frequency noise cancelling system that actively targets and blocks out a wide spectrum of sounds, from the drone of jet engines to general environmental rumble. This hybrid noise cancellation creates a personal bubble of quiet, allowing you to enjoy your music without cranking the volume to dangerous levels just to overcome ambient noise.
Comfort is equally critical for this user profile, and the Space 2 addresses it with an ergonomic headband and upgraded protein leather ear cushions filled with slow-rebound memory foam. These materials are chosen specifically for fatigue-free listening on long-haul flights or during extended work-from-home days. The battery life is where this model truly shines for the mobile listener, offering up to 50 hours of playtime with ANC enabled and a staggering 70 hours when turned off. For those constantly on the move, the ultra-fast charging capability is a game-changer, delivering four hours of listening time from a mere five-minute charge, which eliminates the anxiety of running out of power mid-journey.
Connectivity is another major draw for the Space 2. It utilizes Bluetooth 6.1 technology with a reliable 15-meter range, making it ideal for anyone who wants to leave their phone in their pocket or bag while moving around. The inclusion of Dual Connection allows you to pair with two devices simultaneously, switching seamlessly between a laptop and a smartphone. While the 40-millimeter dynamic drivers provide high-resolution audio supported by LDAC technology, the overall tuning is geared towards a more consumer-friendly experience with enhanced bass and vocal clarity rather than the clinical neutrality of a studio monitor. It also includes unique software features like "Nap Mode" for built-in white noise, catering directly to users seeking relaxation or sleep aids.
• Best for Professional Studio Work → Audio-Technica ATH-M50x (wired connection ensures zero latency and maximum signal integrity).
• Best for Battery Life → Anker Soundcore Space 2 (70 hours of playback with ANC off beats any competitor).
• Best for Noise Isolation → Anker Soundcore Space 2 (Active Hybrid Noise Cancellation physically cancels sound waves).
• Best for Durability → Audio-Technica ATH-M50x (Professional grade materials designed for heavy daily use in studios).
• Best for Wireless Freedom → Anker Soundcore Space 2 (Bluetooth 6.1 with dual device pairing).
• Best for Travel Comfort → Anker Soundcore Space 2 (Memory foam and lightweight design reduce fatigue on long trips).
• Best for Driver Size → Audio-Technica ATH-M50x (45mm drivers offer slightly larger diaphragm surface area).
• Best for Fast Charging → Anker Soundcore Space 2 (5 minutes charge = 4 hours listen time).
In my opinion, the choice between these two depends entirely on whether you prioritize absolute sonic truth or lifestyle flexibility. If I were setting up a home recording studio or needed headphones for critical mixing work where every decibel matters, I would buy the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x without hesitation. The wired connection and 45mm drivers provide a level of fidelity that wireless compression simply cannot match, and the robust build feels like it will last for decades. However, for my personal daily commute and travel, I would choose the Anker Soundcore Space 2. The combination of active noise cancellation, 70-hour battery life, and Bluetooth 6.1 makes it the superior bluetooth earbuds for switch scenarios where mobility is key. It handles the noise of the world better than the passive isolation of the M50x, and the fast charging means I never have to worry about power. Ultimately, if you need the best rechargeable sports earbuds for switch situations involving movement and long durations, the Space 2 wins on convenience, but for pure audio engineering, the M50x remains the king.
Yes, they are excellent for gaming due to their detailed soundstage and lack of latency, but they require a wired connection and do not have a built-in microphone for chat unless you add an external adapter.
Yes, the Space 2 supports LDAC Hi-Res audio codec, allowing for higher bitrate transmission compared to standard Bluetooth codecs, provided your source device supports it.
The Anker Soundcore Space 2 is generally more comfortable for long flights due to its memory foam ear cushions and lighter weight, whereas the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x can feel heavier after several hours of continuous wear.
No, the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x is a wired-only device with a 3.5 mm jack and does not have internal Bluetooth capabilities or a battery.
