Follow the progress and see the exciting plans for the new Centre build at Wiri in Auckland
What's happening?
SPCA is building a new Auckland Centre in the suburb of Wiri. Thanks to our generous donors and supporters, this state-of-the-art Centre will support animal flow, disease control and wellbeing of animals in our care.
The Wiri Centre will replace our existing Auckland Māngere Centre which is no longer fit for purpose.
What are the timescales for the build?
The Wiri Centre should be completed around October / November 2026 and we are working very hard to achieve this goal.
The Auckland Wiri Centre will be located at 485 Puhinui Road, Wiri, Auckland. This is a ten minute drive from the Māngere Centre
Who's paying for the build?
We are funding the build through a combination of generous donors and existing funds from our legacy donors, supporters and fundraising efforts.
In September 2025 we commenced a public fundraising appeal that includes social media, plus advertorial content in NZME media channels. Thanks to a generous donation of NZME media space from the Warriors and One NZ, we were able to utilise this for the advertorials.
What animals will be cared for in Wiri?
Canines, felines and small animals
Will there be a farm site?
We will be relocating the Māngere farm to the Waikato. We have been offered a unique opportunity to use a beautiful farm near Hamilton at no cost. After careful consideration, including the high costs of establishing a Wiri farm from scratch, we have decided that with this alternative option we do not require a farm on the new Wiri site. Whilst this was a difficult decision, the location (as the agriculture heart of the North Island) supports our network approach with other Centres.
What will happen to the land at Wiri that was meant to be the farm?
With Wiri’s proximity to Auckland Airport, we will look into the long-term benefits of subdividing and rezoning the existing farm site land for our benefit.
Will there be any job losses as a result of the new Centre and farm relocation?
Relocation is some time away (over a year) and we do not expect there to be any job losses as a result. With the Centres of Excellence approach that our Leadership team is exploring, we will be providing more cross-training of animal attendants during the construction project and eventual relocation to Wiri.
