"The Uncommon Mortal is my life's work, I've been writing it for 15 years. I have worked hard to preserve my mind, and to not allow outside influences steer me down the wrong path. All the ideas I've had came strictly from the deep parts of my brain. I go out of my way not to watch TV shows like Wednesday, American Horror Story, Stranger Things, anime, or movie franchises like Marvel, The Avengers or any Disney remakes. These franchises are made-to-order like fast food, and dilute the quality of filmmaking. I am very picky with my tastes, and I do not consume that type of media. In order to be an impactful filmmaker, you have to learn when to identify if the content is worth watching, or if the media in front of you is subpar and will lower your cinematographic standards. Cleanse your palate by watching films made before the dawn of the internet." - Nessie Lane Atwood, May 2025
Video tapes made by a prophet named Julie Diana document her thoughts, her life story and her mental decline as she navigates the months leading up to her death. She resides in an abandoned bomb shelter with nothing but a couple TVs to keep her company.
Her only connection to the outside world is through Nuclear Radio, a radio station/TV channel that sends telepathic messages to prophets, letting them know who Osiris has recently killed and who is next. In this world, prophets (referred to as Uncommon Mortals) have the ability to hear the voices of the afterlife through static TV channels and static radio stations.
The show follows the experiences of a disgruntled alcoholic named Angelo Heart, who finds himself resurrected from the dead in a twisted experiment conducted by a corrupted Heavenbound war strategist named Osiris Lux.
Osiris starts killing prophets for his project left and right, people are dropping like flies and no mortal knows how or why. Several prophets around the world are "waking up" and realizing their abilities just in time to panic.
Then, all of the sudden people start popping back up after death in one piece. Fully healed, with absolutely no signs of decomposition or injury. Osiris has started to resurrect them using lightning, striking their souls back into their corpses, reversing their deaths. This method makes them immortal, unstoppable war weapons to be used in the battle between Heaven and Hell.
Shortly after, Angelo meets another resurrected prophet named Will Gallagher. Together they create a network of prophets that can help put a stop to The Uncommon Mortal Resurrection Project.
Meanwhile, detective Howard Sarnoff and New York University professor Albert Armstrong debate on whether or not the deaths are a string of malicious acts of a deranged serial killer, or if they are caused by a powerful supernatural force that mortal humans should not dare provoke.
