Keynote speaker 1: Professor Phillip McCalman, Chair of Economics, University of Melbourne
Keynote address: FDI screening by host governments: Who bears the cost?

Professor Phillip McCalman is Professor of Economics at the University of Melbourne and a leading scholar in international trade and economic policy. His research spans trade agreements, regulatory convergence, intellectual property rights, multinational firms, and the welfare effects of globalization. He has held visiting positions at institutions including Princeton University and has served as a Resident Scholar at the International Monetary Fund. Professor McCalman’s work has been published in leading journals such as Econometrica, the Journal of International Economics and European Economic Review, where his influential research has advanced understanding of modern trade agreements and the evolving structure of global markets.

Keynote speaker 2: Dr. Alina Mulyukova, Chair of Development Economics and Global Political Economy, University of Göttingen, Fellow, Kiel Institute for the World Economy (IfW)

Dr. Alina Mulyukova is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Chair of Development Economics and Global Political Economy at Georg-August-University of Göttingen and a Research Fellow at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy. Her research lies at the intersection of international and development economics, where she uses micro-data and applied econometric methods to study how international trade, foreign direct investment, and industrial policies affect the performance of firms, workers, and households in the Global South. Her work on special economic zones, industrial policy, and firm dynamics has been published in leading journals including the European Economic Review and the Journal of Development Economics. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Kiel University and has been a visiting researcher at the University of Chicago.
