Does the Universal design for learning (UDL) make a teacher’s life easier or more difficult?
Does the Universal design for learning (UDL) make a teacher’s life easier or more difficult?
“Technology will not make a teacher’s work easier but it will make it more nutritious in quality to students”(Rose, 2000)
UDL can make a teachers life easier, and harder at the same time. Technology allows for things to be accomplished easier i.e. copying a course built in a learning management system over to a new class. Saving time in the moment but looking into new and helpful assistive technology to incorporate can be time consuming. I highly recomend checking out some of the assistive technology ideas that are listed on this site. You can also reach out to you Disabilities cordinator and ask if they have any technology they would recomend you incorporate as part of UDL. Here is what Miner had to say
“standard techniques for effective teaching, such as preparation and frequent updating of a class syllabus, making course materials available to students in digital formats, posting course materials to a web page, and accepting assignments submitted as e-mail attachments.” (Miner, 2001)
