Attahir is an academic with years of experience teaching economics at the university level. He has published in the areas of macroeconomics (fiscal and monetary policy issues, growth, and the role of institutions), development economics, and environmental economics among others. Attahir's current research interest intersects environmental economics and macroeconomics, he is specifically interested in understanding how fiscal policy can be designed to enhance the optimal decoupling of growth from the environment via the circular economy model. He is also interested in development issues in the global south.
