Research Summary

This joint laboratory studies a wide range of fields such as an artificial diet for silkworm, production of high-quality and high-performance useful silk, evaluation of pesticides and foods, and human disease. Our researches are based on silkworm research at Kumamoto University and the year-round stable sericulture technology at the “Year-round sterile sericulture facility” built-in Yamaga City by Atsumaru Holdings in April 2017. Besides, we will consider the application of research results to pharmaceuticals in the future.

Research Contents

• This joint laboratory conducts research focusing on the following three points.
• Basic research on feeding behavior and nutrition physiology of silkworm to establish stable breeding conditions (environment and feed) of the silkworm in “Year-round sterile sericulture facility” built-in Yamaga City, and silk performance. (For example, feed composition, nutritional component evaluation of mulberry leaves, feeding nutrition test, and silk fiber performance test.)
• Basic research on next-generation silk and silkworm to improve silk quality and enhance the unique added value of silkworm, including silk. (For example, functional silk development, production of useful substance production recombinant silkworm, the establishment of helpful substance evaluation technology, human disease model silkworm production.)
• Furthermore, we aim to conduct applied research on the aforementioned basic research.
