Science and people go together in our group. We thrive as a team by mutual learning. We support each other by building trust and transparency.
Atreyi is a faculty member in the Department of Pediatrics and is part of the bone tumor research program at Texas Children’s Cancer Center, the largest and most comprehensive center of its type in the nation. Prior to coming to Baylor College of Medicine, she received postdoctoral training at Lermer Research Institute at The Cleveland Clinic and MD Anderson Cancer Center. Her research is motivated by the tragic survival rate in children with metastatic Ewing sarcoma. She is passionate about fostering and helping the next generation of scientists.
Hailing from Kazhaktsan, Ms. Kurenbek completed her Masters in Chemistry from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. She has been in the Ewing Sarcoma Center from 2009 - giving her years of expertise in mice handling, breeding, and surgical manipulations. In her spare time, she loves to travel, read, and spend time with her grand kids.
Jean is a rising senior at The University of Texas at Austin where she majors and is involved in all things Cell and Molecular Biology related. She is currently on a Pre-Ph.D. route where she hopes to continue working on molecular biology and genetics research, hoping to better understand the intricacies of pathways involved specifically in cancer metastasis and gene expression. Outside of the lab, she spends most of her time watching films, biking, and drinking lots of coffee!
Jayden Spears is pursuing a degree in Neuroscience at UTSA with aspirations for a career in clinical neuroscience or neuropsychology. He is passionate about sports and enjoys spending time with family and friends.
Kimberly, entering her second year of Biology at the University of Houston, is exploring her clinical interests while preparing to apply to medical school. Guided by the philosophy "a problem well-defined is half solved," she aims to contribute to diagnostic research that will improve accessibility and prognoses. In her free time, Kimberly enjoys learning languages, working out, and being with loved ones.
Sofia is majoring in Genetics at Texas A&M in the Biochemistry and Biophysics department and will be graduating in Spring of 2025. After her graduation she plans to take a gap year to prepare for the MCAT. She thoroughly enjoys her time at the Faris D. Virani Ewing Sarcoma Research Center studying Ewing Sarcomas and the metastasis processes. Outside of school, Sofia enjoys going on walks, spending time with friends, watching movies, and reading books!
Rucha is a rising senior at The University of Texas at Dallas; she is pursuing a degree in Business administration, and is currently on the pre-medical route! Rucha has always been interested in cancer research, as she believes it is an impactful and evolving topic in the field of science. Outside of school and academia, Rucha enjoys watching movies with her friends and family, traveling, and exploring different cuisines.
