Exploring atmospheric compositions and chemistry in 'pristine' environment

The Earth's atmospheric composition is dramatically changing due to anthropogenic emissions. To understand these changes and climate impacts, it is essential to understand the "natural, pristine" atmosphere, where anthropogenic pollution is absent or limited. Also essential is to understand the chemical reactions in the atmosphere that alter the abundance of each component. The Atmospheric Chemistry Laboratory in Kanazawa University seeks to unravel the pristine atmosphere by analyzing (1) atmosphere in polar regions and (2) the pre-industrial atmosphere recorded in ice cores.

The laboratory has just been launched in April 2022! Organized by Sakiko Ishino.
