Atlas Genius is an Australian alternative rock band formed in Adelaide, South Australia in November 2009. The band's mainstay members are the Jeffery brothers, Keith on lead vocals and lead guitar; Michael on drums; and Darren Sell on keyboard. Their debut album, When It Was Now, was issued on 9 February 2013 and peaked at No. 34 on the United States Billboard 200. In 2013 two of their singles appeared on the related Alternative Songs Chart, "Trojans" (released in May 2011) at No. 4 and "If So" (February 2013) at No. 8. In 2013 the group toured the US in April and May, United Kingdom in May, and back to the US in August.

On 9 February 2013 Atlas Genius issued their debut album, When It Was Now, which peaked at No. 34 on the US Billboard 200.[17] Heather Phares, writing for Allmusic, described its "songwriting is so direct and intimate ... [which] sets them apart from many of their contemporaries" however "[w]hen the writing doesn't match the standard set by the strongest songs, the album lags a little".[17] Drum Media's Dylan Stewart felt the "sound across the 11 tracks ... is incredibly diverse ... where tribal drums will have feet tapping and heads bopping, and plenty of tunes that will find themselves on beer commercials next summer as the soundtrack to pretty young hipsters on rooftops".[18]

Their second single, "If So", also appeared in February 2013. It reached No. 8 on Billboard's Alternative Songs Chart. It is featured in FIFA 13.[19] Early in 2013 the group toured with Steven unavailable.[20] In May that year Keith described the line-up as "Michael is my brother, the drummer. And we have [Darren] a keyboard player from England. And currently we have a bass player ... He's a Californian, a man of many talents, we met him, last year".[4] Tour dates were in the US in April and May,[20] UK in May,[7] Australia in July,[21] and back to the US in August.[7] In June they indicated that after touring they were due to enter their studio to begin work on a second album.[21][22]

Then also we toured with so many great bands. Bands like Phoenix and AWOLNATION, in my mind some of the best live bands in the world, we got to tour with. Certain things worked so well, like having those big dynamics, we built into the architecture of the new album.

Album Lowlight: Honestly, for the amount of time taken since the release of their heralded self-titled release some three years ago, this album falls a little flat. Maybe it was that many other similar bands like Wild Nothing and Real Estate released solid sophomore efforts well before Beach Fossils did. Maybe the departure of Zachary Cole Smith to form DIIV put a crutch in the writing and recording process of Beach Fossils.

Aussie indie pop band Atlas Genius have been creating a buzz at home and with a strong EP that has been topping KCRW charts. They join Morning Becomes Eclectic to preview work from their forthcoming album debut at 11:15am.

Atlas Genius fell onto my radar when their album was first released on Spotify. I was intrigued by their debut album (When It Was Now) cover when it popped up on the advertisement banner, so I clicked on it. I know the saying "don't judge a book by its cover" could apply to album artwork as well, but I am notorious for automatically thinking that if an artist has an interesting cover for their album, then their music will be worth listening to once. And Atlas Genius proved to be more than worth my time, and so I eventually bought their album. They are so talented; I was so excited to see them live, and I had the privilege of doing so last year on the first day of Lollapalooza. Atlas Genius' sound is so fresh and they are a great band to see perform outside. There were so many people who came to watch them. As my friends and I inched closer to the stage, we saw many people up in the trees vibing to the music. We ended up next to this really cute couple who started dancing with us. My friends and I had made it just in time for my favorite song by Atlas Genius, "Electric," and it was amazing hearing it performed live. I love how different their sound is from the majority of the bands that come on the radio. The beats and lyrics are so on point, and they come together so nicely. It was such a fun and upbeat time full of dancing and great music.

Australian Alt-Rockers Altas Genius are something of a phenomena in cult appeal as before their debut album dropped in 2013, they were selling out venues globally due to the critical acclaim and inherent buzz around their first releases and live ability.
