Local Democratic Party Platforms Greg Landsman
On October 3, 2025, the Athens County Democratic Party (ACDP) hosted Congressman Greg Landsman for its Fall Dinner event at the American Legion on 520 West Union Street. This decision was made by the current Athens County Democratic Party Chair, Lauren Dikis, despite the objections of numerous members of the local Democratic party and community members, as voiced in this letter signed by over fifty Athenians:
Consequently, members of our community protested the event and raise our voices against the ACDP platforming a supporter of genocide:
Greg Landsman is an active supporter of Israel and Israel’s genocide of Palestinians
He’s taken over $400,000 from pro-Israel lobbies
He's voted for over $44 billion in aid for Israel and its military
He's voted to suppress free speech on behalf of Palestine
He's provided political cover for Israel’s crimes and criminals
By hosting Landsman, the Athens County Democratic Party dismissed and condoned genocide
Landsman should not be upheld as a leader of the Democratic party, here in Athens or anywhere else. And the Athens Democratic Party should include the genocide in Gaza as critical to its Democratic platform.
The Athens County Democratic Party should:
publicly acknowledge it made a gross mistake in platforming Landsman
publicly state it condemns the genocide in Gaza
refuse to support Democratic candidates or representatives who support genocide
Contact the Athens County Democratic Party and withhold your donations
Withhold your donations to the ACDP until the Party represents your views and the views of Democrats by standing against genocide.

Who is Greg Landsman?
Greg Landsman is a Democrat in the U.S. House of Representative who took office in 2023. He serves Ohio’s first congressional district, which includes Cincinnati. Currently, Landsman is also one of the foremost supporters in Congress of Israel and its genocide of Palestinian. Here he is being asked about it.
Landsman has accepted large financial donations from pro-Israel contributors:
In 2023-24, Landsman received approximately $415,657 from pro-Israel lobbies, including $385,808 from The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). His next biggest contributors were a property management company ($46,200), the University of Cincinnati ($37,624), and Kroger ($33,941).
Landsman has repeatedly voted to send aid—specifically military aid—to Israel:
In November 2023, Landsman voted to cut the IRS budget in order to send $14 billion in unconditional Israel aid. In February 2024, he voted to send another $17.6 billion to Israel. In April 2024, he voted to send another $14 billion in weapons to Israel. In July 2025, he also voted against cutting $500M for the Israeli missile military programs.
Landsman has repeatedly voted to suppress voices supporting Palestinians:
Landsman voted to condemn pro-Palestine college students. He voted to allow the Trump administration to revoke non-profit tax status from pro-Palestine organizations. He also voted to ban representatives from the Palestine Liberation Organization—internationally recognized as the official representative of the Palestinian people in the occupied Palestinian territories—from entering the U.S. despite the fact that they are not designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S.
Landsman has repeatedly given Israel and its leaders diplomatic cover for their crimes:
Landsman voted to ban the State Department from citing Palestinian death tolls from the Gaza Health Ministry. He voted for a Pro-Israel resolution declaring Israel is not a racist or apartheid nation. (It is, according to Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, and the United Nations’ International Court of Justice.) He has travelled to Israel multiple times since being elected and met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and then Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant, who both have arrest warrants from the United Nations’ International Criminal Court for war crimes. Instead of respecting international law, Landsman voted to sanction the ICC for Netanyahu’s arrest warrant.
Landsman has directly prevented humanitarian aid from reaching Palestinians:
Landsman has undermined support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNWRA), the primary relief agency through which Palestinians receive life-saving support, through his public statements and legislative action. He has also not cosponsored recent Democratic efforts to restore funding to UNWRA and deliver aid to people in Gaza.
Israel is illegally committing genocide against Palestinians
On September 16, 2025, a United Nations commission confirmed what humanitarian organizations around the world have also stated: “Israel is responsible for the commission of genocide in Gaza.” These organizations include Amnesty International, Doctors Without Borders, Human Rights Watch, The International Association of Genocide Scholars, The International Federation for Human Rights, The European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights, and the Israeli organizations B’Tselem and Physicians for Human Rights in Israel.
What does this genocide look like? Since October of 2023, Israel has killed at least 65,000 Palestinians, including at least 18,430 children. Almost 2 million Palestinians are facing a intentionally man-made famine because Israel refuses to allow humanitarian aid to enter Gaza. 90% of those people have been displaced and deprived of life-saving shelter, food, medical services, electricity, and clean water. Israel has destroyed most of Gaza’s infrastructure, and its soldiers have targeted doctors, journalists, and other humanitarian aid workers. Israel’s violence against the Palestinian people is a crime as defined by international law in the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
Democrats Voters Do Not Support Genocide
The majority of American Democrats disapprove of Israel’s military action in Gaza. In a recent Gallup poll take in July 2025, only 8% of Democrats expressed approval of Israel’s military actions in Gaza. To say it another way, 92% of Democrats disapprove of Israel's military actions in Gaza. Moreover, only 38% of all Americans—Democrats, Republicans, and independents—approve of Israel’s actions. Another poll shows Democrats disapprove by 75% of sending more military aid to Israel. Democratic officials who support Israel’s genocide of Palestinians are not representing the people in Democratic party. Democrats do not support Israel’s war on Gaza, and the Democratic Party should represent this view of its Democratic voters.
Athens Citizens Do Not Support Genocide — Athens City Council Passed a Ceasefire Resolution for Israel’s War on Gaza
The citizens of Athens has already clearly demonstrated that we do not want to support Israel’s military actions on the Palestinians in Gaza. In February of 2024, Athens City Council passed a resolution calling for a ceasefire. So, too, did Athens' neighbors in Chauncey, which passed a resolution for a ceasefire in May 2024. The resolution for Athens reads:
Make It Clear — The Athens County Democratic Party Should Condemn Genocide
By hosting Greg Landsman for its Fall Dinner, the Athens County Democratic Party condoned genocide. Landsman has repeatedly supported Israel’s military actions through his work in Congress. Landsman should not be celebrated or upheld as a leader of the Democratic party, here in Athens or anywhere else. The Athens County Democratic Party should never have hosted Greg Landsman as its keynote speaker. Most importantly, the Athens Couty Democratic Party should publicly state that it does not support the genocide—the enforced displacement, intentional starvation, and mass slaughter of the Palestine people—and that it will not support any Democratic candidates or representatives who do.

https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/house-resolution/1102
https://clerk.house.gov/Votes/2024102
Landsman voted in favor of H.R. 1102, a procedural resolution that facilitated the larger bill called The State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs (SFOPs) Act. SFOP is an appropriations package considered that included the SFOPs Appropriations Act. A provision within this specific bill prohibited any taxpayer funding from going to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA). Support for H.R. 1102 became a procedural means for cutting support to UNRWA.
Landsman did call for an amendment to H.R.7217, the Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2024, that that would have added funding for Ukraine, Palestinian humanitarian aid, and Taiwan:
His amendment was not accepted. Landsman nevertheless voted in support of the bill. (See his voting record above.)
