Recently, the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres mentioned that the world is now facing a Climate Emergency. We all know that the Philippines is among the top 10 vulnerable countries in terms of multi-hazard phenomenon. With this, we also recognize the use and benefits of the Geographic Information System (GIS) to assist in making better and informed decisions in various contexts such as rural/urban planning, environmental assessment, and disaster management.Â
GIS is an indispensable tool needed today to 1. set up databases or update existing databases, and, 2. process and analyze data along with its wide range of applications, especially in this time of climate emergency and pandemic. Learning GIS will help in the Climate and Disaster Risk Assessment (CDRA) of the different Local Government Units as well as in coming up with strategies needed for the efficient distribution of government services to those that are most in need.
It is in this light that the Ateneo Regional Environmental Geographic Information Systems (REGIS) Hub would like to invite interested participants from the Local Government Units or any organization to online or face-to-face training on a first come first serve basis following safe training room capacity on Geographic Information System (GIS). Due to COVID-19 Pandemic, we would like to ensure the safety of our participants as well as our trainers while providing the essential skills needed by the participants for their GIS-related projects.
