The "Spring Music & Dance Festival" was the first live performance of 2021, combining music, dance, and singing all into one show. With shows at Laurel Ridge, Ridgefield Crossings, and Ballard Green, the performances were spread out over the course of two days starting on Saturday, May 15th and ending on Sunday, May16th. @ Assisted Living kicked off the Saturday performances with an early bird show at Laurel Ridge and concluded the day with an afternoon performance at Ridgefield Crossings.
The May 2021 performance started off with "Eyeglass Duet for Viola & Cello" by Beethoven, which was performed by Alex Dillulio and Coleman Hoffner. Dillulio is a senior that Ridgefield High School and has been playing the cello for eight years. She is the principal cellist of the RHS Orchestra and the WCYO Symphony Orchestra. Hoffner is seventeen years old and is a junior at Ridgefield High School. Hoffner has been playing the viola since fourth grade and along the way, he has learned to play the piano, violin, and, recently, the cello. Hoffner is also a member of the @ Assisted Living Troupe.
RHS was also featured in day one of the May 2021 performance. The group performed "The Star-Spangled Banner" in honor of National Armed Forces Day, "Blackbird" by The Beatles, arranged by Daryl Runswick. "Africa" by Toto, and Found/Tonight by Ben Platt and Lin Manuel Miranda. RHS Sings members Alyza Crook, Justine Corsilia, Martha Huitron, Priya Natarajan, Sydney Michel, Tyler Munson, and Vavi Rodgers were present at the event.
Alyza Crook, President of RHS Sings, is sixteen years old and is a junior at Ridgefield High School. Justine Corsilia is a member of RHS Sings and is a junior at Ridgefield High School. Corsilia enjoys painting, playing soccer, and reading in her spare time. Martha Huitron, a freshman at Ridgefield High School and member of RHS Sings, enjoys singing and loves to do theater at the high school. Priya Natarajan, member of RHS Sings, is sixteen years old and is a junior at Ridgefield High School. Singing is one of her favorite activities and Natarajan also dances competitively. Tyler Munson, a senior at Ridgefield High School, was incredibly excited to perform with RHS Sings for the first time. Munson has also participated in many plays and musicals at Ridgefield High School, and writes music in his spare time. Vavi Rodgers, member of RHS Sings, is sixteen years old and is in tenth grade at Ridgefield High School. Rodgers also plays tennis for the RHS Girls JV Tennis Team.
Vice President of RHS Sings, Sydney Michel, also performed "Come to My Garden" by The Secret Garden and "My Favorite Things" from The Sound Of Music. These two songs were a lovely addition to the show, and residents enjoyed singing along to "My Favorite Things". Michel, fifteen year old sophomore at Ridgefield High School, was thrilled to perform with RHS Sings at the "Spring Music & Dance Festival". Michel is most proud of her role as Mary Poppins, and loves all things Broadway.
Founder of @ Assisted Living, Caroline Pickett, also performed at the show. Featured below is a video clip from Pickett's treble reel at Ridgefield Crossings dancing to the song "American Wake" from Riverdance.
Pickett also performed a slip jig to the song "Stolen Kiss", from Lord of the Dance, and danced a reel and an a capella treble reel. She also prepared the songs for each Irish dance and RHS Sings number, as well as intro/outro music. Pickett created programs for the performance which included the names of each act and information about each performer. During the performance, Pickett introduced each number and shared fun facts about each act/performer. To learn more about Caroline Pickett and @ Assisted Living, visit the "About" tab.
@ Assisted Living would also like to thank Mr. Kevin Haines, music teacher at Ridgefield High School, for coming out to the shows and supplying RHS Sings with microphones and speakers, monitoring the music, moving/setting up the equipment and making adjustments during the show, and moving Pickett's dance floor on and off stage throughout the performance. Thank you, Mr. Haines!
