About

We are At Your Cervix, a team based at Rice University's Institute for Global Health. Since August 2019, we have been collaborating with physicians in the Harris County Health System to develop the Universally Friendly Obturator (UFO), a device that increases accessibility to high-quality brachytherapy treatment for late-stage cervical cancer.

The ufo

Our device, the Universally Friendly Obturator, is designed to address issues with current brachytherapy methods while also increasing accessibility to treatment in low-resource settings. The UFO incorporates an internal template, composed of angled channels, to guide brachytherapy needles through the vaginal canal. The needles are entirely protected from skin and tissue until they reach the tumors at the cervix, significantly reducing patient morbidity typically associated with cervical cancer brachytherapy.

Currently, we are working towards protecting the intellectual property of our proprietary design. We are also working with physicians to begin preliminary testing of our device in patients. If you are interested in working with us to bring the UFO to your operating room, please reach out to us at teamatyourcervix@gmail.com.
