Open Water Diver Certification
Scuba certification consists of 3 parts:
Part 1 : Classroom Knowledge Review - Dive Theory
Divers start with a hybrid online class where you can access video content and complete book work on your schedule, then meet with an instructor for review and exam. Very flexible around your schedule, and takes about 8 hours total.
There is a traditional, day class option for groups of 4 or more: 8am to 4pm on a day of your choice, or two evenings of your choice! Contact us to arrange a date.
Part 2: Pool Session
Hands-on experience underwater learning valuable diving skill and using general dive equipment. You typically only need one pool session, but additional sessions can be joined to further develop skills and comfort (extra gear/tank rental required per session). Sessions are usually held at an ASU pool, although we can hold sessions off campus at private diving pools!
Part 3: Four Open Water Dives
These "check-out" dives are done at your convenience, and are the final step in certification. They can be done locally, such as in Lake Pleasant, or on one of our many dive trips throughout the school year.

Costs:
Parts 1 and 2 above cost $245 total, which covers all your course instruction, classroom review and pool time, and ALL gear and tank rentals. A hard copy of the course manual is recommended, and can be provided by us or ordered online. While we do provide masks, fins, snorkels, and dive booties as part of the course, you are encourage to obtain your own to ensure better fit and comfort! We can guide you on selecting these once in the course.
(Additional rules for pool training: with the initial pool training included, additional pool sessions if needed do require a 75$ gear/tank rental fee. No-shows: students who miss pool training and do not inform us at least 24 hours prior, there is a fee of $75 to cover your unused gear/tank rental and to set up another gear/tank rental).
Part 3 is considered separate, and depends on where you’d like to do your dives! The lowest cost option is locally at Lake Pleasant which starts at $245, at Rocky Point, Mexico, or on one of our more exotic dive trips.
Training costs through the club are comparable to most dive shops or resorts, but with the convenience of doing class and pool training right at ASU! You can sign up by paying the total course fee, or with a $75 deposit (balance due before pool training).
ADVANCED
Open Water Certification
Advanced Open Water certification is the next level beyond basic certification. This consists of independent knowledge reviews completed around YOUR schedule. Then, the student and instructor choose a series of 5 dives which fit the type of diving the student desires. Besides Navigation and a Deep dive, the diver can choose to do single dives from any of the specialty courses (see below), which include night, photography, videography, diver propulsion vehicle, wreck, and many more...
Advanced certification can be accomplished over the course of a semester, or in as little as a weekend. The five necessary dives can be accomplished at different times, or completed in as little as two days!
Cost: $245: includes your course materials and certification processing. Tank and gear rental can be arranged separately (many advanced divers consider buying their own gear), and divers are responsible for any dive trip costs.
Rescue Diver, Specialty certs, and Divemaster
We usually hold a Rescue Diver course once or twice a year for divers who have already achieved their Advanced Open Water. Contact us to get on the roster for it!
Interested in adding some specialty certs to broaden your diving skills? We can help you achieve many different specialties, many of which can be completed during any of our dive trips. (See the flowchart below for some specialty dives!)
For divers with lots of experience under their belt and who want to take it to the next level, we offer Divemaster training as well. This is the first professional level in recreational diving offered by PADI and can help you land a job in the dive industry! Contact us to start your training!
