A factory reset ASUS router returns the device to its original default settings wiping away all personalised configurations such as the Wi-Fi name password and network settings.
This procedure is important for diagnosing persistent difficulties prepping the router for a fresh setup and selling or giving away the router.
There are two main ways to execute a factory reset: via the reset button or the router's web interface.
To use the Reset Button first locate the reset button on the router's back which is generally a little pinhole.
Press and hold the button with a paperclip until the power light blinks signifying the start of the reset procedure.
Once released the router will reboot and reset to factory settings.
You will need to reconnect your devices and reconfigure the router using the ASUS Router App or router.asus.com.
Now Via the web interface To access the router's web interface connect a device to it and type router.asus.com or 192.168.1.1 into a browser.
After login in with your admin credentials go to the Administration page and then the Restore/Save/Upload Settings area. Click Factory Default to finalise the reset.
Once the reset is complete you must repeat the initial configuration procedure as if the router had never been installed before.
It's also a good idea to check for firmware upgrades during the setup process to ensure maximum performance and security.
